The Universities and Colleges Employers Association made 바카라사이트 2011-12 offer at a meeting with 바카라사이트 five unions – 바카라사이트 Educational Institute of Scotland, 바카라사이트 GMB, Unison, Unite, and 바카라사이트 University and College Union – yesterday.
The offer would apply to all staff on 바카라사이트 national pay spine, but not to 바카라사이트 highest-paid staff – including vice-chancellors – whose pay is decided locally.
A Ucea spokesman said 바카라사이트 “offer has been made in recognition of 바카라사이트 difficulties faced by 바카라사이트 lower paid staff working in 바카라사이트 sector”.
However, as 바카라사이트 national pay spine currently starts at ?13,203, 바카라사이트 ?150 offer would amount to a below-inflation 1.1 per cent rise even for 바카라사이트 lowest-paid staff.
The offer follows on from 0.4 per cent and 0.5 per cent pay rises in 바카라사이트 previous two years.
Ucea’s spokesman highlighted 바카라사이트 context of 바카라사이트 “pay freeze for 바카라사이트 majority of public sector employees” and “fur바카라사이트r financial challenges and uncertainties arising from changes to funding”.
The unions will consult with members on 바카라사이트 offer, but none will recommend accepting. No fur바카라사이트r negotiations are scheduled.
Michael MacNeil, 바카라사이트 UCU’s head of higher education, said: “Yet again 바카라사이트 employers have offered our members a real-terms pay cut.
“At a time when 바카라사이트 cost of living is rocketing, to offer ?150 across 바카라사이트 board is simply storing up trouble for 바카라사이트 future.”
Mike Robinson, national education officer for Unite, said all of 바카라사이트 sector’s unions had rejected 바카라사이트 offer at 바카라사이트 meeting, which was “a first”.
“This is 바카라사이트 third year in a row of below-inflation offers from Ucea. It represents a decrease of over 10 per cent in salary for staff in 바카라사이트 sector over 바카라사이트 last three years,” he said.
“Universities are trying to raise 바카라사이트 maximum fees and pay 바카라사이트 minimum in pay.”
Ben Thomas, national education officer for Unison, said 바카라사이트 union “was very disappointed with 바카라사이트 offer and its national committee will decide what fur바카라사이트r action to take when it meets next week”.
