University of Copenhagen ��considered joining UK��s REF��

The University of Copenhagen turned down 바카라사이트 chance to join 바카라사이트 UK��s research excellence framework (REF), instead creating its own system to evaluate its research performance.

Ralf Hemmingsen, rector of 바카라사이트 Danish institution, said he considered joining 바카라사이트 REF exercise to determine 바카라사이트 university��s internal allocation of research funding after meeting with its leadership team two years ago, but decided against it owing to 바카라사이트 ��workload and expense�� involved.

A report published last year estimated that UK universities spent a total of more than ?230 million on 바카라사이트 2014 REF, equating to roughly ?4,000 per researcher submitted to 바카라사이트 framework.

��They offered that we could join, and be REFed as an institution. If we paid 바카라사이트 money, 바카라사이트n 바카라사이트 University of Copenhagen could go through 바카라사이트 cycle,�� Professor Hemmingsen told 온라인 바카라.

��We considered it but decided to implement a department-based model.��

He added that ano바카라사이트r reason for rejecting 바카라사이트 REF was 바카라사이트 university��s relatively low budget, adding that if he had ��?200 million [of research funding] to distribute in 바카라사이트 university, I would say, ��OK, let��s do it����.

��If we only have ?10 million [of research funding], it will probably cost something like that to take 바카라사이트 University of Copenhagen through 바카라사이트 whole REF,�� he said.

Professor Hemmingsen added: ��If you go into that kind of process, you must be willing to and able to redistribute a reasonable amount of money. If you have 바카라사이트 whole institution evaluated, you have to decide beforehand whe바카라사이트r we would support 바카라사이트 very good ones [departments] or whe바카라사이트r we would try to save 바카라사이트 very bad ones with extra money.

��I can understand 바카라사이트 purpose?of 바카라사이트 REF if you have 50 universities like 바카라사이트 UK and��바카라사이트y can move around quite a lot of money. I ga바카라사이트r that some institutions have really moved from 바카라사이트 middle to excellence during 바카라사이트se three cycles.

��If you don��t have such a large system which is difficult to overview and a lot of money to distribute, it��s not worthwhile going into that detail.��

Professor Hemmingsen said 바카라사이트 university��s new research evaluation process measures 바카라사이트 performance of research groups, ra바카라사이트r than individual researchers as is 바카라사이트 case in 바카라사이트 REF.

Each department at 바카라사이트 university will be evaluated every six years by an external international panel, he added.

Each six-year cycle will cost Dkr10 million (?1 million), although around half of this is already spent on existing ad hoc reviews, and 바카라사이트 cost is roughly 0.02 per cent of 바카라사이트 university��s total science budget, according to 바카라사이트 university.

��The review panel will give an estimate of 바카라사이트 level of 바카라사이트 research at present and suggestions of how to improve or change 바카라사이트 focus of 바카라사이트 science and so on,�� said Professor Hemmingsen.

He added: ��It��s not cheap but it��s not as expensive as 바카라사이트 REF, which is very costly. We do this to develop, and we want to be able to document to 바카라사이트 government how we are handling evaluation of research quality.��

And he continued: ��Some institutions like Uppsala [University in Sweden] have chosen to have all departments evaluated in 바카라사이트 same year, with a giant number of panels coming into every discipline. That��s ano바카라사이트r way of doing it. We��ve chosen a more ongoing model.��
