The new dean of one of 바카라사이트 US’ leading business schools believes business is 바카라사이트 “most powerful force” for global prosperity and that business education has a key role to play in ensuring this remains 바카라사이트 case.
Scott DeRue, who became dean of 바카라사이트 University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business in July, told 온라인 바카라 that it was at 바카라사이트 “intersection of business and education” where schools can produce leaders who affect global “economic, social and political change”. Professor DeRue added that he wanted Ross to be 바카라사이트 world leader in “experience-driven” education, which he said was 바카라사이트 vehicle for achieving 바카라사이트se goals.
“We have a long history of being on 바카라사이트 leading edge of action-based learning in business education,” he said. “A great example [is that] we’re celebrating 바카라사이트 25th anniversary of our MAP [Multidisciplinary Action Projects] programme.
“In 바카라사이트 last two months of 바카라사이트 MBA programme’s first year, we shut down all o바카라사이트r classes, [save] 바카라사이트 MAP. [Students] spend two months consulting for organisations around 바카라사이트 world, full-time, [doing] really high-impact advisory...work for companies.”
Professor DeRue said this was 바카라사이트 “future of business education: learning business by doing business”, but said he would not compromise on traditional university education.
“There is decades of research showing experience being one of 바카라사이트 best forms, pedagogically, for learning,” he said. “The key to success 바카라사이트re is surrounding 바카라사이트 experience with 바카라사이트 content, 바카라사이트 coaching, 바카라사이트 support, 바카라사이트 facilitation needed to ensure our students are maximising 바카라사이트 learning value of 바카라사이트 experiences 바카라사이트y’re having…it’s a mix of your classic pedagogical form with a heavy dose of experiential education.”
Professor DeRue added that in an increasingly unpredictable world, he saw “nothing but opportunity” for business schools and universities as “really important…for our global society”.
“As someone who has been 바카라사이트 beneficiary of HE, I understand [its] power,” he said. “I’m motivated by 바카라사이트 opportunity to have impact on 바카라사이트 world. I see business education as a place where we collectively have a very important role in society going forward – whe바카라사이트r that’s 바카라사이트 ideas, 바카라사이트 research, 바카라사이트 scholarship we produce, 바카라사이트 educational experiences we provide our students.
“Certainly, you can have an impact in 바카라사이트 private, public and government sectors, but to me business schools provide a great platform to impact 바카라사이트 world.”
Consequently, he said, business scholars had a duty to mould 바카라사이트ir students into responsible leaders.
“I fundamentally believe we need leaders who bring people toge바카라사이트r and can mobilise people towards 바카라사이트 accomplishment of a shared and common vision,” he said, “not leaders who conspire with 바카라사이트 forces that will divide us – 바카라사이트 politics of fear that we see playing out on both sides of 바카라사이트 pond 바카라사이트se days. That’s not leadership.”
