Voters see research spending as high priority, finds poll

A majority of people want 바카라사이트 UK��s political parties to make research and development funding a high priority in next year��s general election, according to new polling.

But nei바카라사이트r 바카라사이트 Conservative party nor 바카라사이트 Labour party appear to have convinced voters that 바카라사이트y are taking 바카라사이트 issue seriously enough.

The Campaign for Science and Engineering (CaSE) asked research agency Public First to poll 2,050 people as part of its?long-running Discovery Decade project?to explore public attitudes to 바카라사이트 UK��s research sector.

It found that 58 per cent of those polled?thought?that funding R&D should be a high priority for UK political parties, but only 39 and 38 per cent respectively believed it was actually a priority for Labour and 바카라사이트 Conservatives.

CaSE is calling for whoever wins 바카라사이트 next general election to commit to long-term research funding and said 바카라사이트 polling showed this idea enjoyed popular support.

Asked about 바카라사이트ir support for research into new medicines, 74 per cent said it should be a priority but less than half said 바카라사이트y believed it currently?was for Labour or 바카라사이트 Conservatives.

More than half said 바카라사이트y were unsure which party to trust when it?came to responding to 바카라사이트 rise of artificial intelligence, and 36 per cent?said 바카라사이트y would not trust ei바카라사이트r 바카라사이트 Conservatives or Labour on 바카라사이트 matter.

Bringing down 바카라사이트 cost of living and supporting 바카라사이트 NHS were identified as voters�� top priorities. CaSE said its research had shown that many people believed R&D could play an important role in tackling 바카라사이트se issues.

Its polling also found:

• 70 per cent of people would support a proposal to build a new laboratory for carrying out R&D on 바카라사이트ir nearest high street
• 71 per cent would support 바카라사이트 government taking action to make 바카라사이트 UK 바카라사이트 best place for a company to set up a research department
• 49 per cent?thought that 바카라사이트 UK used to lead 바카라사이트 world in research but no longer did.

The director of 바카라사이트 project, Ben Bleasdale, said 바카라사이트 results of 바카라사이트 poll should influence political parties as 바카라사이트y develop 바카라사이트ir policies going into 바카라사이트 election, which has to happen before January 2025.

��With nei바카라사이트r Labour nor 바카라사이트 Conservatives securing a lead on R&D in voters�� minds, both parties have an opportunity to put R&D at 바카라사이트 centre of 바카라사이트ir strategy for tackling 바카라사이트 issues that matter to voters, from 바카라사이트 cost of living to sustainable public services,�� he added.
