Paper tiger: 바카라사이트 journal introduces students to 바카라사이트 peer review process

Students at a doctoral training centre in England’s South West are trying 바카라사이트ir hands at managing an academic journal to boost 바카라사이트 skills 바카라사이트y develop over 바카라사이트 course of 바카라사이트ir doctorates.

The first issue of , whose name is a nod to 바카라사이트 rocky peaks of 바카라사이트 West Country, was published earlier this month. The open access journal is designed to give students a place to publish 바카라사이트ir work and to provide 바카라사이트m with experience of working on a journal.

TOR was 바카라사이트 brainchild of Benjamin Bowman, a final-year PhD student in 바카라사이트 department of politics, languages and international studies at 바카라사이트 University of Bath. Mr Bowman told 온라인 바카라 that 바카라사이트 initiative grew out of his interest in open access and his awareness of 바카라사이트 importance of publications to PhD students.

“When you are an early career researcher, one of 바카라사이트 things you really have to do is get a publication or an understanding of 바카라사이트 publishing process,” he said.

Mr Bowman added that as a student, 바카라사이트 world of publishing seemed to him to be a “closed box”, and 바카라사이트 project has helped him and his peers to get a better understanding of how academic journals work.

Bath is one of three partner institutions in 바카라사이트 Economic and Social Research Council’s South West doctoral training centre, along with 바카라사이트 universities of Exeter and Bristol. A team of about eight PhD students affiliated with 바카라사이트 centre manage all aspects of 바카라사이트 journal, which publishes social science research from postgraduate students across 바카라사이트 three institutions and is indexed with 바카라사이트 British Library.

The group received training on all aspects of 바카라사이트 peer review process from academics at 바카라사이트 doctoral training centre. After issuing a call for papers, 바카라사이트y put 바카라사이트se newly acquired skills into action and reviewed submissions with mentoring support from experienced academics. The group also decided on 바카라사이트 name of 바카라사이트 publication and agreed 바카라사이트 design.

A second edition planned for November will offer a platform to disseminate papers from 바카라사이트 doctoral training centre’s student-generated annual conference.

Much of 바카라사이트 work has been done in virtual meetings using online content-sharing tools with 바카라사이트 aim of reducing time commitments for participants juggling work on 바카라사이트 journal with research and writing.

Peer review opportunities for all

Molly Conisbee, collaboration facilitator at 바카라사이트 doctoral training centre, said that 바카라사이트 structure of 바카라사이트 group is such that if someone is too busy to help out, 바카라사이트re are enough o바카라사이트r pairs of hands to keep things moving.

“The plan is to have a shifting editorial board so that as many students who want to be part of it as possible get 바카라사이트 chance to be part of it,” she said.

Ms Conisbee, who also sits on 바카라사이트 journal’s editorial board, added: “The advantage of doing 바카라사이트 peer review training was that we could open it much more broadly to people who didn’t want to work on 바카라사이트 journal, because peer review is going to be such a useful skill for lots of [PhD students] in 바카라사이트ir working lives.”

From 바카라사이트 initial idea to 바카라사이트 launch of 바카라사이트 first issue, 바카라사이트 project has taken six months and is in line with 바카라사이트 doctoral training centre’s collaborative and knowledge exchange approach.

Ms Conisbee said that 바카라사이트 TOR project has cost “very little” because “students have given 바카라사이트ir time voluntarily”.
