The South Korean government is to pull funding from 바카라사이트 US-Korea Institute at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, forcing it to close next month and sparking a row over interference in academic affairs.
Robert Gallucci, 바카라사이트 institute’s chairman, “said 바카라사이트 move was a direct result of 바카라사이트 managers’ refusal to follow South Korean government instructions to fire 바카라사이트 institute’s director and assistant director,” 바카라사이트 . “It’s utterly inappropriate for a foreign government, and an ally by 바카라사이트 way, to threaten an American academic institution this way,” Dr Gallucci said.
Since its foundation in 2006, 바카라사이트 thinktank, which runs 바카라사이트 38 North website specialising in North Korean affairs (which will continue to operate), has received 2 billion won (?1.3 million) from 바카라사이트 South Korean government annually through 바카라사이트 Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), 바카라사이트?.
As its rationale for cutting off funding, 바카라사이트 KIEP cited “lax reporting on accounts and a lack of transparency in selecting visiting scholars and interns”.
“To reform 바카라사이트 management of 바카라사이트 organisation, 바카라사이트 KIEP has reportedly requested 바카라사이트 resignation of Jae H Ku, director of USKI,” seen as more conservative than 바카라사이트 new liberal South Korean administration,?“and Jenny Town, vice-director of USKI, a request 바카라사이트 thinktank dismissed,” 바카라사이트?Korea Times said.
However,?Dr Gallucci called 바카라사이트 move an “intervention on academic freedom” and has said he will send a letter to South Korea's president, Moon Jae-in, in protest.
