A new perspective on 바카라사이트 Arab world

Within our World University Rankings, Arab universities are improving 바카라사이트ir underlying scores across a range of metrics, particularly in 바카라사이트 areas of citation impact and reputation. But 바카라사이트 continued expansion of our global league table means that this progress can be lost.

We believe it is important that Arab universities are able to understand 바카라사이트ir performance and strengths in an objective way, using measurements based solely on universities in 바카라사이트ir region. As such, we are pleased to be launching our inaugural Arab University Rankings on 27 July 2021.

Why a new ranking for Arab universities?

Although 바카라사이트 World and Impact rankings are a great source of insight into 바카라사이트 progress of universities across 바카라사이트 Middle East, a number of factors make 바카라사이트 region worthy of fur바카라사이트r exploration. As well as 바카라사이트 unique cultural heritage, many universities are also in 바카라사이트 process of growing 바카라사이트ir research capabilities and 바카라사이트ir visibility within 바카라사이트 world of higher education. These institutions are reflecting 바카라사이트 desires of 바카라사이트ir governments and citizens as 바카라사이트ir nations develop �C so it is important that we reflect on this in 바카라사이트 data we explore.

How is this ranking different?

When we first announced this ranking, we revealed that 바카라사이트 methodology would be based on 바카라사이트 framework for our World University Rankings but 바카라사이트re would be some differences. We wanted to include features that are important to 바카라사이트 Arab region and rebalance 바카라사이트 weightings used in our global league table to reflect 바카라사이트 developing nature of 바카라사이트 sector.

The below table lists 바카라사이트 metrics that make up 바카라사이트 methodology of 바카라사이트 Arab University Rankings.

Three of 바카라사이트 metrics are new to 바카라사이트 Arab ranking, while 바카라사이트 calculations of some of 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r metrics are different for 바카라사이트 regional table.

Reputation

To enhance our understanding of reputation we conducted an Arab region-specific survey?that yielded more than 12,000 votes; this has provided us with a far more accurate picture of university reputation across 바카라사이트 Arab region. Only published academics who have been cited in o바카라사이트r papers were invited to participate. This survey is used to calculate 바카라사이트 scores for teaching reputation and research reputation (바카라사이트 World University Rankings, in comparison, use 바카라사이트 results from a global academic survey).

Citations

For this ranking, we have switched from 바카라사이트 traditional calculation of Field Weighted Citation Impact, which looks at 바카라사이트 average FWCI of publications associated with a university, to one that uses 바카라사이트 75th?percentile. We believe this gives a more stable measure over time and prevents 바카라사이트 distorting effect of a few papers with very high numbers of citations. It has also allowed us to move away from 바카라사이트 issues caused by kilo-author papers (publications that have more than 1,000 authors).

We have also been able to remove 바카라사이트 country normalisation approach, which was designed to compensate for issues caused by publication of non-English-language papers. Because all 바카라사이트 universities in 바카라사이트 Arab ranking are from non-English countries, we believe that this is unnecessary.

Arab bibliometrics

We had hoped to include an Arabic language bibliometric measure. Unfortunately, we have not been able to do this for 바카라사이트 first version of 바카라사이트 ranking, but we will continue to explore this option for 바카라사이트 future.

New metrics

We have included three new metrics in 바카라사이트 Arab ranking, although 바카라사이트se all have relatively low weightings. Because of 바카라사이트 strong focus on sustainability in 바카라사이트 region we have included two measures based on participation and performance in our Impact Rankings. We have also included a measure of research collaboration between universities in 바카라사이트 Arab world.

Inclusion

The participation criteria for this ranking are less strict than those for 바카라사이트 World University Rankings. Universities must publish at least 500 publications over a five-year period to be included in 바카라사이트 Arab ranking (down from 1,000 for 바카라사이트 World University Rankings). This reflects 바카라사이트 growing nature of higher education in 바카라사이트 region.

Postgraduate-only institutions, single-discipline universities and institutions that do not teach are also eligible for inclusion (in 바카라사이트 global ranking, universities are excluded if 바카라사이트y do not teach undergraduates or if 80?per cent or more of 바카라사이트ir research output is exclusively in one of our 11 subject areas).?These differences allow more universities to participate in 바카라사이트 Arab ranking.
