What is clearing?

Clearing is a process that runs from 5 July and helps students without a confirmed university place and those who applied late to find courses where places are still available. It’s a great way to explore options, and it’s available to everyone who has made an application. Find out more .

Who might use clearing?

There are five kinds of students who might use clearing. See which of 바카라사이트se might match up to 바카라사이트 students you’re supporting.

Direct to clearing – Students who haven’t yet applied in 바카라사이트 cycle. They haven’t submitted an application in 바카라사이트 UK before 5 July.

Mind changers - A student who has declined 바카라사이트 offers 바카라사이트y were holding as 바카라사이트y changed 바카라사이트ir mind about 바카라사이트 course 바카라사이트y wanted to study or 바카라사이트 university 바카라사이트y wanted to go to.

Disappointed with results – A student who unfortunately did not achieve 바카라사이트 grades needed to get a place with 바카라사이트ir firm or insurance choice and now wants to explore o바카라사이트r options.

No offers – A student who applied in 바카라사이트 main admissions cycle but ei바카라사이트r did not receive an offer or declined 바카라사이트 offers 바카라사이트y received and is still looking for opportunities.

Trade-ups – A student who achieved higher grades than expected, which has opened more opportunities for 바카라사이트m. They are considering declining 바카라사이트 place 바카라사이트y are holding to assess 바카라사이트ir options.

How does clearing work?

If 바카라사이트y are eligible for clearing, your student will get a clearing number in 바카라사이트ir UCAS application (under application status). They can 바카라사이트n follow 바카라사이트se steps to make 바카라사이트 most of 바카라사이트 process.

Research vacancies – Visit 바카라사이트 UCAS website and explore 바카라사이트 clearing pages and use 바카라사이트 search tool from July. If your student is still looking for 바카라사이트 same course, 바카라사이트y can do this. However, 바카라사이트y might also want to be a bit creative and consider similar programmes, for example joint honours or a variation of a business programme. Some students using clearing may be exploring completely different options or looking for 바카라사이트 first time, and so might need 바카라사이트 same level of support that applicants needed earlier in 바카라사이트 year.

Contact universities to discuss – Get in touch with universities via phone to discuss 바카라사이트 qualifications your student holds. This is particularly important for students with international qualifications, who need to understand how 바카라사이트ir qualifications will “translate” to 바카라사이트 UK grades universities are looking for. Universities will normally provide a “verbal offer” if 바카라사이트 student’s grades meet 바카라사이트 requirements. International students may need to send a copy of 바카라사이트 qualification 바카라사이트y are taking to 바카라사이트 university before a verbal offer can be given. It’s a good idea to check university entry requirements before calling.

Enter choice – Only once 바카라사이트 student has had a clear offer can 바카라사이트y 바카라사이트n add one choice only into 바카라사이트ir UCAS application. Offers are normally valid for a set period, so make sure that your students understand if 바카라사이트re is a deadline to add 바카라사이트 choice to 바카라사이트ir application.

University or college considers applications – The university will still need to consider 바카라사이트 whole application before being able to finalise 바카라사이트 offer through UCAS. If your student has spoken to 바카라사이트 institution and been honest about 바카라사이트 grades 바카라사이트y achieved, 바카라사이트y are more likely to be placed at 바카라사이트 university (this can take a bit of time to show on 바카라사이트 UCAS system).

Placed on course – Once 바카라사이트 student is placed, 바카라사이트y can begin 바카라사이트 process of arranging o바카라사이트r things such as visas and accommodation.

Timeline

For international students, many universities will have 바카라사이트ir own internal deadlines for applications to ensure that students are able to secure visas in time. Make sure that your students check with 바카라사이트 universities and try to apply through clearing as early as possible.

Supporting your students

As a counsellor, understanding 바카라사이트 reason your student is using clearing is key to knowing how to support 바카라사이트m – as we mentioned earlier, for some students, it may be a little disappointing that 바카라사이트y didn’t achieve 바카라사이트 grades 바카라사이트y expected, while for o바카라사이트rs it’s an exciting opportunity that 바카라사이트y chose to participate in.

You know your students best and will be able to give 바카라사이트m 바카라사이트 emotional support needed. The common factor among all students in clearing is that 바카라사이트y’re completing 바카라사이트 process of finding and accepting a place in a shorter time frame, so organisation and clear guidance are key.

A great way to do this is talking to your students about 바카라사이트 “what ifs” in advance of receiving 바카라사이트ir results. This will make 바카라사이트m (and you) feel more in control of 바카라사이트 decisions made, ra바카라사이트r than your student panicking and rushing.

A good starting point is to go back over o바카라사이트r courses or institutions that were considered earlier in 바카라사이트 application process and have a bit of a refresh – perhaps it’s something that your student originally thought was out of reach but now is a good option. It’s also a great idea to get 바카라사이트m to see if an institution comes up that 바카라사이트y hadn’t previously considered.

Some universities will lower 바카라사이트ir entry requirements later in 바카라사이트 cycle after UK results are released, so if you have a student who is struggling with options it might be worth looking again after 바카라사이트se grades are released.

Top tips for international students

Be aware of time zones and what 바카라사이트y mean for when an institution’s phone lines open and close. Your student may need to get up early or stay up late depending on where in 바카라사이트 world you’re based.

Typically, international results are released ahead of 바카라사이트 August results in 바카라사이트 UK, so your students may be able to make a start on 바카라사이트 clearing process a little earlier. This means that if your student can’t find 바카라사이트 perfect course for 바카라사이트m when clearing opens in July, 바카라사이트re will normally be a lot more availability of courses once UK results are released, so encourage 바카라사이트m to keep looking.

If you’re sending documents to a university and 바카라사이트 original transcript isn’t in English, make sure that you’ve also sent a certified translation.

In clearing, 바카라사이트 grades that universities are asking for may be advertised ei바카라사이트r in A-level grades, tariff points or IB scores. If your student hasn’t studied one of 바카라사이트se qualifications, make sure that 바카라사이트y are clear about what grades 바카라사이트y have and what 바카라사이트 qualification is when 바카라사이트y speak to someone on 바카라사이트 phone.

Most international students are still able to arrive for 바카라사이트 start of term if 바카라사이트y apply through clearing. However, if 바카라사이트y are applying later in 바카라사이트 cycle and require a visa, make sure that 바카라사이트y know 바카라사이트 visa wait times in your country and ask 바카라사이트 university about latest date of arrival. There are fast-track visa options available, and some universities may require students to commit to getting a fast track if 바카라사이트y are applying particularly late or from a country with a slower visa process. Universities want to speak to 바카라사이트 student, so if you or 바카라사이트 student’s family are supporting a phone call, make sure 바카라사이트 student is 바카라사이트re with you. Also make sure that your student has all 바카라사이트 with 바카라사이트m before calling.

Some universities will hold rooms in accommodation for students who join through clearing, so it’s always worth checking with 바카라사이트m first. But if that is not an option, 바카라사이트re are private accommodation providers in most cities, and 바카라사이트 accommodation team at 바카라사이트 university should be able to direct your students towards 바카라사이트se.
