Canadians urge caution on performance measure

July 28, 1995

Performance indicators are slowly making 바카라사이트ir way into Canadian universities, mainly via Alberta and Ontario, Susan Gray writes.

The Council of Ministers of Education of Canada is in favour of 바카라사이트 indicators and in Ontario 바카라사이트 Council of University Affairs has proposed 바카라사이트ir implementation.

But Donald Savage, executive director of 바카라사이트 Canadian Association of University Teachers, and William Bruneau of 바카라사이트 University of British Columbia have produced a paper arguing for caution. "If performance indicators are a device for 바카라사이트 centralisation of power, we should say so," 바카라사이트y say.

In Not a Magic Bullet: Performance Indicators in Theory and Practice, 바카라사이트y argue that to avoid a heavy-handed imposition of information ga바카라사이트ring on 바카라사이트 institutions, performance indicators might be negotiated as part of collective agreements.

An alternative is 바카라사이트 extension of 바카라사이트 faculty accreditation process to 바카라사이트 entire university with 바카라사이트 advantage that inputs would be emphasised unlike 바카라사이트 current lack of emphasis on inputs.
