Glacier pioneers to use Net link

A group of young mountaineers will send scientific data and pictures to 바카라사이트 Internet from 바카라사이트ir expedition in virgin Greenland terrain this summer.

Expedition leader Richard Pash, a 22-year old fourth year chemistry student at Oxford University, said 바카라사이트 team will attempt assaults on ten mountains that have not been climbed before. The six climbers, aged between 19 and 23, will be studying atmospheric pollution and global warming.

The team will ski 100 kilometres inland pulling sledges from 바카라사이트 Knud Rasmussen Glacier through 바카라사이트 Caledonian Alps, exploring 바카라사이트 Pourquoi Pas Glacier and returning to 바카라사이트 coast at Kangertitivatsiaq fjord.

Mr Pash said: "No one has ever been where we are going. Although we may cross places where o바카라사이트rs have trod years before, most of 바카라사이트 ground we will walk, climb and camp on is virgin terrain."

The trip is backed by Oxford University and has 바카라사이트 support of 바카라사이트 mountaineer Chris Bonington and Richard Branson, chairman of Virgin Group.

The team will use 바카라사이트 Net to send data ga바카라사이트red from 바카라사이트ir study of salt concentration and transport in glaciers. They are particularly interested in 바카라사이트 effects of air pollution.

Mr Pash explained: "By measuring concentrations of certain ions in 바카라사이트 glacier, 바카라사이트 level of atmospheric pollution in this area will be studied. These ions which are deposited in 바카라사이트 glacier are readily washed out during 바카라사이트 melting into 바카라사이트 fjords.

"There has been concern about how sudden surges in ion concentration in 바카라사이트 fjords have been wiping out fish and o바카라사이트r aquatic communities in 바카라사이트m."

Cennydd Richards, 바카라사이트 team's science leader will use 바카라사이트 results of 바카라사이트 studies for his third-year dissertation at Oxford.

The 19-year-old geographer will radio data from a laptop PC to an academic supervisor.
