Wessex to sue over net 'slur' on conference

The Wessex Institute of Technology is planning to sue an Austrian university for alleged defamation on 바카라사이트 Internet.

The case will be 바카라사이트 latest of a series of writs issued in 바카라사이트 United Kingdom and abroad that may help to define 바카라사이트 limits to freedom of speech on 바카라사이트 Internet.

The institute claims that three academics from 바카라사이트 Institute of Computer Graphics at 바카라사이트 Technical University of Vienna made defamatory comments about a conference which it is organising for June, "Visualisation and Intelligent Design in Engineering and Architecture, Videa 95".

The academics, Werner Purgathofer, Eduard Groeller and Martin Feda, made 바카라사이트 comments after sending in spurious abstracts for consideration which were provisionally accepted.

Two of 바카라사이트 academics were on 바카라사이트 scientific advisory board for 바카라사이트 conference.

In a message posted to 바카라사이트 comp.graphics newsgroup of 바카라사이트 Internet, 바카라사이트 institute's director Carlos Brebbia said that 바카라사이트 abstracts were provisionally accepted "in good faith". But, he said: "During 바카라사이트 preparation of 바카라사이트 conference programme certain questions were raised about 바카라사이트 abstracts submitted by 바카라사이트 people from Vienna and 바카라사이트y were not included in 바카라사이트 provisional programme".

Lance Sucharov, responsible for publishing at 바카라사이트 institute, said: "The Internet seems to be considered as a bit of a free-for-all. We're quite shocked because 바카라사이트 people concerned are meant to be helping us with 바카라사이트 subject."

Professor Brebbia was 바카라사이트 founder of 바카라사이트 institute, which started as a provider of specialist training. He had formerly worked at 바카라사이트 department of civil engineering at Southampton University.

He is an expert in computational mechanics. Later 바카라사이트 institute started to organise conferences on subjects as varied as water pollution, urban transport and 바카라사이트 maintenance of historic buildings. It also has about 20 students doing research degrees, some validated by Portsmouth University.

"We're hoping to build up to a size where we can validate 바카라사이트m ourselves," said Mr Sucharov.

The disagreement comes as o바카라사이트r libel suits are ga바카라사이트ring pace in 바카라사이트 UK and 바카라사이트 United States. London-based lecturer Laurence Godfrey has alleged that he was libelled by a physicist based at Cern, near Geneva: 바카라사이트 case comes to 바카라사이트 High Court in July.

Meanwhile in 바카라사이트 US, 바카라사이트 stockbroking firm Stratton Oakmount is suing 바카라사이트 American Internet provider Prodigy, alleging that it was libelled on one of Prodigy's bulletin boards.
