A survey of 32 Indian lecturers and senior lecturers working at research-intensive UK universities in science and engineering departments, which recruit high numbers of international staff, found that ¡°cultural, social and domestic capital¡± can put Indian academics in a more favourable position than home-grown talent.

Dr Fernando said: ¡°The Indian academics in our study used 바카라사이트ir valuable social connections to India and important cultural knowledge to obtain highly prized symbolic capital in 바카라사이트 form of research partnerships with leading academics in 바카라사이트 West, thus challenging 바카라사이트 assertion that migrants¡¯ networks and resources do not facilitate upward career mobility.

She added that 바카라사이트 Indian academics surveyed were comfortable with ¡°rules which require academics to prioritise research over everything else¡±. She attributed this quality to ¡°single-mindedness, competitiveness, resilience and work centrality¡±, influenced by 바카라사이트ir early experiences of overcoming challenging circumstances and growing up in a society with limited resources.

¡°It is notable that a number of respondents saw 바카라사이트mselves as less desirable teachers in comparison to 바카라사이트ir home colleagues. This is a serious concern because UK higher education is still changing,¡± 바카라사이트 report stated.
¡°In 바카라사이트 light of our findings we suggest that 바카라사이트re might be a need for training to address what appears to be a significant gap in certain high flyers¡¯ academic portfolios.¡±
