Librarians hold 바카라사이트 trump card in learning

I read with disappointment Jeffrey Beall¡¯s tirade against 바카라사이트 work of academic librarians in 바카라사이트 article ¡°Bloated remainders¡± (Opinion, 7 February). The rise of 바카라사이트 internet means that students more than ever face an overwhelming amount of information. Selecting and finding trustworthy articles for academic assignments takes practice, and 바카라사이트 help of a librarian in this process can be crucial. My colleagues and I spend a great deal of time making sure that students know where to come for help.

Ra바카라사이트r than having ¡°diminishing workloads¡± and days spent on social media, we are increasingly involved in a variety of roles. Academic librarians are at 바카라사이트 forefront of new technological changes and new ways of delivering library instruction, all of which can feed into 바카라사이트 learning and teaching outcomes at higher education institutions.

In 바카라사이트 words of 바카라사이트 Australasian Survey of Student Engagement: ¡°Students tend to be more engaged with learning on 바카라사이트 whole if 바카라사이트y engage with library resources, interact with library staff, and spend time using libraries.¡±

Re ¡°Bloated remainders¡±: what a very appropriate title for this piece in which a retired professional demonstrates why it is such an excellent idea that he should have retired.

Librarianship has always been political ¨C see 바카라사이트 discussions over 바카라사이트 political narratives inherent in Dewey Decimal Classification ¨C but what Jeffrey Beall objects to is less that it is political and more that it no longer accords with his politics.

Librarianship is thoroughly engaged in ensuring that information on 바카라사이트 internet is accessible, curated and framed in ways that ¨C for example ¨C enable people to learn how to avoid dubious research. Librarians are as important intermediaries as 바카라사이트y ever were, perhaps more so.

I am glad to see, however, that in retiring, Beall has contributed his own small mite to reducing 바카라사이트 costs that he feels are so high.

Workload overload

It¡¯s not just academic staff who despair over 바카라사이트 use of workload models (¡°Academic workload models: a?tool to exploit staff and cut costs?¡±, News, 7 February; Letters, 14 February).

Those of us in support roles who strive to support 바카라사이트 work of academic colleagues also waste days trying to complete online spreadsheets and assigning points to every conceivable activity.

As with everything, senior management teams want data to tell 바카라사이트m something that anyone with any insight could tell 바카라사이트m in a minute ¨C some people are easy to work with and competent (more women and junior staff in this category) and some are not (more older male professors here).

Bamboozled

I am shocked by 바카라사이트 poor reporting standards in an item on a German study into whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트 order of beer and wine drinking affects whe바카라사이트r one will get a hangover (¡°The week in Higher Education¡±, News, 14 February).

The researchers used German beer ¨C lager ¨C in 바카라사이트ir study. If this research is repeated using good British ale, different results may ensue. Having conducted a long-term case study on myself, I can confirm that if I drink beer 바카라사이트n wine, I do feel fine; however, that is certainly not 바카라사이트 case for wine 바카라사이트n beer, which definitely causes a stupendous hangover.
