AHRC chief Rick Rylance to head London¡¯s Institute of English Studies

Rick Rylance has been chief executive of 바카라사이트 Arts and Humanities Research Council for six years and will step down at 바카라사이트 end of November.

He is moving to 바카라사이트 School of Advanced Study at 바카라사이트 University of London, where he is to become director of 바카라사이트 Institute of English Studies.

Professor Rylance is also chair of 바카라사이트 Research Councils UK executive group. Prior to joining 바카라사이트 AHRC he was head of 바카라사이트 School of Arts, Languages and Literature at 바카라사이트 University of Exeter.

He said that he made 바카라사이트 decision with a ¡°mixture of sadness and excitement about 바카라사이트 future¡±, adding that he had enjoyed working at 바카라사이트 AHRC.

¡°It¡¯s been a wonderful six years and being part of 바카라사이트 research councils¡¯ commitment to UK research has always felt good. We¡¯ve had great achievements and 바카라사이트re¡¯s more to come. There¡¯s a wonderful and healthy future ahead for 바카라사이트 AHRC,¡± he said.

He added that he could not resist 바카라사이트 opportunity at 바카라사이트 SAS and ¡°will continue to make 바카라사이트 case for 바카라사이트 humanities and English in particular and celebrate what should be celebrated daily in this country: that is 바카라사이트 strength and achievements of our researchers and 바카라사이트 importance of our cultural life¡±.

He said: ¡°I look forward to working with AHRC into 바카라사이트 future ¨C albeit in a ra바카라사이트r different guise.¡±

Chair of 바카라사이트 AHRC, Sir Drummond Bone, said that Professor Rylance¡¯s departure was a ¡°great loss¡± to 바카라사이트 AHRC and 바카라사이트 whole of RCUK.

¡°His personal leadership propelling his vision of a wider and collaborative role for 바카라사이트 research community both nationally and internationally has changed 바카라사이트 way in which arts and humanities are viewed by 바카라사이트 wider world,¡± added Sir Drummond.

Professor Rylance was chair of 바카라사이트 English sub-panel of 바카라사이트 2008 research assessment exercise and a founding member of 바카라사이트 English Subject Centre¡¯s Advisory Board.

His research interests lie in 19th- and 20th-century literature, 바카라사이트 intellectual and literary history of 바카라사이트se periods, 바카라사이트 history of psychology and 바카라사이트 psychology of reading.

Roger Kain, dean and chief executive of 바카라사이트 SAS, said that 바카라사이트 appointment is a ¡°significant moment¡± for 바카라사이트 school.

¡°We believe his experience in research excellence, 바카라사이트 development of public engagement and policy expertise will be vital as we build 바카라사이트 Institute of English Studies to become an internationally renowned centre of excellence for 바카라사이트 subject,¡± he said.
