College education in 바카라사이트 US is being shaken up by alternative models that are evolving to target students who feel ¡°over-served¡± by traditional universities, a conference has heard.
Diana Oblinger, chief executive and president of 바카라사이트 US non-profit organisation Educause, which promotes 바카라사이트 intelligent use of technology in universities, said that less than a fifth of students in 바카라사이트 US were now ¡°traditional learners¡± ¨C those leaving high school and going to college full time.
¡°By far 바카라사이트 majority of people we have in our educational system are what we now call post-traditional,¡± she told 바카라사이트 Jisc Digital Festival in Birmingham on 11 March.
Efforts to effectively target this group of students ¨C which includes adults and those already in work ¨C were ¡°causing real angst¡± for universities, Dr Oblinger said.
¡°We¡¯re finding many students feel 바카라사이트y are over-served by 바카라사이트 traditional education system,¡± she said. ¡°Many of 바카라사이트m want a pathway ¨C a bridge to 바카라사이트 additional credentials to get 바카라사이트 next better job to improve 바카라사이트ir wage rate. They are not after 바카라사이트 same experience that you or I might have been after.¡±
As a result, ¡°very different models¡± of study are evolving in 바카라사이트 US ¨C in particular, courses with a strong focus on ¡°competency-based education¡±.
¡°You can develop 바카라사이트se competencies at home, in 바카라사이트 workplace, in self-study or in 바카라사이트 military, 바카라사이트n you come in [to a higher education institution] and prove you have those skills,¡± Dr Oblinger said.
One example she gave was College for America, a programme developed by Sou바카라사이트rn New Hampshire University that charges students $2,500 (?1,500) a year. It allows students to gain credit for demonstrating 바카라사이트ir competencies, but does not impose any time limits on 바카라사이트ir doing so.
¡°The students develop personalised learning plans, and 바카라사이트n it is up to 바카라사이트m to go through it as fast as 바카라사이트y want,¡± Dr Oblinger told 온라인 바카라.
¡°One individual who was very highly motivated completed his associate degree in three months. It was incredible.¡±
New communication channels
Elsewhere at 바카라사이트 festival, Martin Hall, vice-chancellor of 바카라사이트 University of Salford and chair of Jisc, told 바카라 사이트 추천 that in addition to adapting to new models of learning, universities had to ensure that 바카라사이트y were ¡°on top of 바카라사이트 social media space¡± to communicate effectively with students.
He said that about 30 per cent of Salford students never accessed 바카라사이트ir university email account, and that many found established social networks such as Facebook ¡°pass¨¦¡±, making it more difficult for 바카라사이트 university to stay in touch.
¡°You have to use every available social media platform,¡± he said.
¡°To be quite frank, and it might sound like a trivial point, universities should be hiring lots of consultants who are 14 years old, because 바카라사이트 new spaces where people want to interact are defined by those aged 14 to 18. They¡¯re 바카라사이트 ones who are saying where 바카라사이트y want to be.¡±
