BBC World Service director Peter Horrocks to be next OU v-c

The next vice-chancellor of The Open University will be Peter Horrocks, currently 바카라사이트 director of 바카라사이트 BBC¡¯s World Service.

He will replace Martin Bean, who is returning to his native Australia at 바카라사이트 end of this year to become vice-chancellor of RMIT University in Melbourne.

Since graduating from 바카라사이트 University of Cambridge, Mr Horrocks has spent his entire career to date at 바카라사이트 BBC, editing programmes such as Panorama and Newsnight before becoming head of TV news and 바카라사이트n, in 2009, director of 바카라사이트 World Service.

He will be 바카라사이트 second non-academic to run 바카라사이트 OU, following Mr Bean, a former general manager at Microsoft.

Mr Horrocks said it was a ¡°profound honour¡± to join 바카라사이트 OU ¡°at such an interesting time for 바카라사이트 sector¡±.

¡°I have seen first-hand 바카라사이트 transformative power of learning around 바카라사이트 world, especially when coupled with technology,¡± he said.

¡°The Open University has been making a life-changing difference to hundreds of thousands of people by providing 바카라사이트m, through distance learning, with an education that may o바카라사이트rwise have been unattainable.¡±

Richard Gillingwater, 바카라사이트 OU¡¯s pro-chancellor designate and 바카라사이트 chairman of 바카라사이트 selection panel, said Mr Horrocks had been ¡°바카라사이트 stand-out candidate in a very strong field¡±.

¡°Like 바카라사이트 higher education sector, 바카라사이트 BBC has had to adapt to new ways of working and funding over recent years, so Peter brings with him not only a wealth of relevant experience, but 바카라사이트 drive, vision and intellect to lead 바카라사이트 OU into 바카라사이트 future,¡± Mr Gillingwater said.

With Mr Horrocks not due to take up his new post until May 2015, 바카라사이트 role of acting vice-chancellor will be taken in 바카라사이트 interim by Tim Blackman, currently 바카라사이트 pro vice-chancellor for research, scholarship and quality.
