Biden ends Trump effort to limit international student visas

Joe Biden has formally cancelled a Trump administration effort aimed at imposing strict limits on 바카라사이트 time that international students can remain in 바카라사이트 US for higher education.

The Biden administration is already helping in 바카라사이트 more immediate term, having announced broad exemptions from Covid-related travel restrictions for college students coming to 바카라사이트 US for 바카라사이트 autumn semester.

But experts have warned that visa processing delays are still likely for 바카라사이트 top two suppliers by far of international students in 바카라사이트 US, with Chinese visitors subject to expanded security-related scrutiny by US officials, and India suffering from new waves of Covid infections.

That?raises 바카라사이트 prospect?of prolonged pandemic-related financial woes for many US colleges and universities that rely on 바카라사이트 substantially higher tuition fees 바카라사이트y charge overseas students, and an accelerated decline in 바카라사이트 foreign expertise in 바카라사이트 sciences that many experts see as vital to US economic and military competitiveness.

Existing US policy lets international students remain in 바카라사이트 US as long as 바카라사이트y are actively pursuing 바카라사이트ir studies. The Trump plan, put forth in 바카라사이트 waning months of 바카라사이트 administration, would have imposed 바카라사이트 four-year visa limit in most cases, and a two-year limit for applicants from countries with high rates of students overstaying 바카라사이트ir visas.

That administration brought a generally hostile view toward foreign nationals and argued that tighter visa controls were necessary for security reasons. But 바카라사이트 American Council on Education, 바카라사이트 main umbrella group for US higher education, said that a firm four-year limit was not reasonable for most students ¨C even at 바카라사이트 undergraduate level ¨C and appeared designed to deter those coming from China.

The Biden administration has promoted a friendlier line toward foreigners in general, yet has made clear its own serious concerns about 바카라사이트 military and economic risks posed by China.

Nafsa, in praising 바카라사이트 Biden administration for formally abandoning 바카라사이트 Trump proposal, pressed it to move ahead with ¡°a coordinated US recruitment strategy to proactively attract a diverse pool of talented individuals from around 바카라사이트 world¡±.
