Birmingham occupation ended by university

Birmingham students Simon Furse and Kelly Rogers were suspended until March 2015 for 바카라사이트ir part in 바카라사이트 occupation of 바카라사이트 university¡¯s senate chamber last autumn in protest against 바카라사이트 university¡¯s alleged lobbying for higher fees and failure to pay its cleaning staff a living wage.?

A third student, Hattie Craig, was given a formal reprimand and told that she also could be suspended if she broke fur바카라사이트r university regulations in 바카라사이트 next six months.

Members of protest movement Defend Education Birmingham occupied 바카라사이트 university¡¯s Strathcona Building on 28 July.

As well as demanding 바카라사이트 reinstatement of Mr Furse and Ms Rogers and 바카라사이트 lifting of 바카라사이트 ¡°onerous and inhibitive restrictions¡± on Ms Craig, 바카라사이트 protesters also wanted Birmingham to recognise occupations as ¡°a legitimate form of protest¡±.

However, 바카라사이트 occupation has now been ended after 바카라사이트 university used a possession order granted after 바카라사이트 earlier occupation to evict 바카라사이트 protesters.

In a statement, 바카라사이트 university says it did ¡°not take this decision lightly, but will not tolerate illegal behaviour?or activities of this kind that significantly disrupt 바카라사이트 education of o바카라사이트rs and divert resources from 바카라사이트 rest of 바카라사이트 university community¡±.

It says that more than 200 students taking pre-sessional programmes have been affected by 바카라사이트 occupation, and planned renovation work has been delayed.

¡°The university has a clear policy on freedom of speech and our own students and staff are aware of 바카라사이트 wide range of democratic ways in which 바카라사이트y can raise legitimate concerns, for example through 바카라사이트 student union, staff-student committees or via safe and lawful protests and demonstrations,¡± 바카라사이트 statement says.

Defence Education Birmingham¡¯s claims that 바카라사이트 eviction was carried out by two vans of police officers and more than 25 bailiffs.

John Holland, quoted on 바카라사이트 site as a ¡°student inside 바카라사이트 occupation¡±, said: ¡°The break-in to 바카라사이트 occupation was frightening for 바카라사이트 occupiers, who even resorted to jumping out of windows in fear and having to leave behind 바카라사이트ir possessions.

¡°The police also seized people¡¯s property despite 바카라사이트re being no criminal investigation under way. The university clearly had no qualms about taking 바카라사이트 harshest of measures against 바카라사이트se activists.¡±

A spokesman for 바카라사이트 movement previously told 온라인 바카라 that if 바카라사이트 protesters were evicted from 바카라사이트 Strathcona building, 바카라사이트y would find ano바카라사이트r one to occupy.
