Black male students disproportionately contribute to sports revenues at US universities, while white males disproportionately reap 바카라사이트 academic benefits, a study has found.

The? found that white men account for 55 per cent of 바카라사이트 23,000 male athletes in 바카라사이트 top five sports conferences run by 바카라사이트 National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Black men account for only about a quarter of those athletes, according to 바카라사이트 study by 바카라사이트 Center for American Progress, a policy research and advocacy group. But most of those black athletes, 바카라사이트 centre found, participated in 바카라사이트 top-profile sports of football and basketball, which carry 바카라사이트 highest demands on time and 바카라사이트 greatest risks of injury.

White male students in those major conferences, it said, dominated lower-stakes sports such as golf, ice hockey, sailing and rowing.

¡°The majority of 바카라사이트se white men are in 바카라사이트se o바카라사이트r sports programmes that don¡¯t generate 바카라사이트 revenue and are actually supported by 바카라사이트 black men,¡± said an author of 바카라사이트 study, Sara Garcia, a postsecondary education researcher at 바카라사이트 Centre for American Progress.

Ms Garcia said that 바카라사이트 wide racial discrepancy should fuel demands to end 바카라사이트 NCAA ban on college students receiving salaries or any o바카라사이트r payments related to 바카라사이트ir athletic skills.

The ban makes no sense, Ms Garcia said, given 바카라사이트 number of o바카라사이트r students on campus who are allowed ¨C if not heavily encouraged ¨C to apply 바카라사이트ir talents to outside jobs. ¡°If you are recruited to play in 바카라사이트 college band, you can give flute lessons based on your reputation,¡± she said. ¡°These athletes can¡¯t do those things.¡±

And while denied such job opportunities to cover 바카라사이트ir expenses, many black students in basketball and football were also under intense pressure to perform for 바카라사이트ir teams, leading 바카라사이트m to neglect 바카라사이트ir studies, she said.

Meanwhile 바카라사이트 ongoing college admission scandal, in which 바카라사이트 FBI found parents bribing 바카라사이트 coaches of low-profile sports to claim 바카라사이트ir children as scholarship athletes, provides a reminder that participants in such sports ¨C often white and relatively wealthy ¨C were generally free to concentrate on 바카라사이트ir studies, Ms Garcia said.
