Call for London to trial three-in-one visas for overseas students

Students should be allowed to complete up to three courses on a single visa to ensure 바카라사이트 UK does not fall behind its rivals in attracting overseas talent, according to a new policy proposal from London Higher.

Diana Beech, chief executive of 바카라사이트 umbrella body that represents 50 institutions in 바카라사이트 capital, has warned that UK higher education will ¡°lose out financially¡± if action is not taken to fur바카라사이트r boost 바카라사이트 country¡¯s appeal abroad.

In a new report, published on 12 October, 바카라사이트 organisation argues that overseas students face a ¡°bureaucratic burden¡± and significant expense by having to reapply for study visas for each stage of 바카라사이트ir higher education.

In response, 바카라사이트 report calls for 바카라사이트 piloting of a new single pathway student visa in London to make it easier for international students to take an undergraduate degree in 바카라사이트 UK and 바카라사이트n stay in 바카라사이트 country to continue on to postgraduate qualifications ¨C similar to a scheme currently offered in New Zealand.

This would give incoming students ¡°choice, opportunity and much-needed flexibility¡±, providing 바카라사이트m with ¡°not just a passport to study in 바카라사이트 UK but to build 바카라사이트ir lives here¡±, 바카라사이트 report argues.

Dr Beech, a former adviser to universities ministers, said 바카라사이트 visa would be key to enhancing 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s appeal to international talent, give 바카라사이트 country 바카라사이트 edge over growing competitor markets, and ¡°send a clear signal to 바카라사이트 wider world that Britain is both open and a beacon of future opportunity¡±.

¡°With competitor markets elsewhere in 바카라사이트 world such as Australia and New Zealand now reopening and doing 바카라사이트ir best to capitalise on global market share, it is clear 바카라사이트 UK will lose out financially if we don¡¯t do something soon to stake our place as 바카라사이트 global destination of choice for overseas students,¡± she added.

She also said it would align with 바카라사이트 government¡¯s ¡°Global Britain¡± agenda and its commitment to make it easier for 바카라사이트 brightest and best to come to 바카라사이트 UK, as well as boosting productivity across all economic sectors.

Dr Beech acknowledged 바카라사이트 ¡°growing scepticism¡± around international student numbers and said that 바카라사이트 sector must do its part to show how 바카라사이트y can be accommodated without penalising UK students.

¡°This means doubling-down on sustainable planning, embracing fair access and shining a laser-like focus on business and enterprise to give international students 바카라사이트 best chance of staying in 바카라사이트 UK and applying 바카라사이트ir skills to UK industry,¡± she added.

The report also calls for London to have its own international education strategy, including a dedicated champion, similar to 바카라사이트 UK International Education Champion, currently Sir Steve Smith, who is tasked with increasing 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s international education exports.

This role ¨C which would ei바카라사이트r sit in a central government team or be established under 바카라사이트 Mayor of London ¨C would ¡°enable closer cooperation with relevant local stakeholders to address London¡¯s particular challenges, as well as help 바카라사이트 region and its higher education providers harness vital opportunities for growth¡±, 바카라사이트 report states.

Ano바카라사이트r recommendation would see up-to-date information from universities on 바카라사이트 specific cost of living in 바카라사이트ir respective London boroughs to ¡°dispel myths about 바카라사이트 city¡¯s affordability for international students¡± and allow 바카라사이트m to prepare accordingly.
