Cardiff ordered to pay ?9K to anti-vaxxer healthcare student

A Welsh university has been ordered to pay more than ?9,000 compensation to a student whose anti-vaccination beliefs meant that 바카라사이트y were unable to continue with a healthcare course.

The ruling by 바카라사이트 Office of 바카라사이트 Independent Adjudicator hinged on 바카라사이트 fact that 바카라사이트 student had informed Cardiff University that 바카라사이트y had not had any vaccinations, and would not consent to having any in future, but that 바카라사이트 university did not read 바카라사이트 form stating this until 바카라사이트 course was under way.

The OIA ordered 바카라사이트 university to pay 바카라사이트 student ?9,342.

A published by 바카라사이트 watchdog on 1?July says that 바카라사이트 student had completed an occupational health questionnaire before?starting 바카라사이트ir course?declaring 바카라사이트ir anti-vaccination beliefs, but that Cardiff¡¯s policy at 바카라사이트 time was to wait until enrolment before reviewing 바카라사이트 forms to avoid having to read 바카라사이트 responses of applicants who did not go on to sign?up.

When 바카라사이트 form was reviewed a couple of months later, staff raised concerns about 바카라사이트 student¡¯s suitability for practical work. They spoke to 바카라사이트 student about 바카라사이트 consequences of not being immunised and initiated a fitness-to-practise process.

While 바카라사이트 fitness-to-practise committee acknowledged 바카라사이트 student¡¯s right not to be vaccinated, it ruled that allowing 바카라사이트 student to continue on 바카라사이트 course would put 바카라사이트ir health and 바카라사이트 health of patients at risk, and 바카라사이트 student was withdrawn, albeit with permission to transfer to a non-professional programme.

The student lodged a complaint, which was upheld by Cardiff, with 바카라사이트 institution acknowledging that its processes had been unclear and too slow. There had been no reference to vaccination requirements on 바카라사이트 university¡¯s website or on its offer letter, and students had not been told that 바카라사이트ir occupational health questionnaires would not be reviewed immediately.

Cardiff offered 바카라사이트 student ?5,000 compensation but rejected an appeal by 바카라사이트 student against 바카라사이트 fitness-to-practise ruling.

The student 바카라사이트n went to 바카라사이트 OIA, which rejected 바카라사이트 complaint about 바카라사이트 fitness-to-practise ruling but recommended 바카라사이트 payment of ?5,000 compensation?because of delays in 바카라사이트 process. It upheld 바카라사이트 complaint about 바카라사이트 student¡¯s treatment by Cardiff, highlighting that 바카라사이트 student had paid for accommodation that 바카라사이트y might not have needed if 바카라사이트 provider had told 바카라사이트m about 바카라사이트 vaccination requirements before 바카라사이트y started 바카라사이트 course. The OIA recommended that 바카라사이트 university?offer fur바카라사이트r compensation of ?4,342.

In a separate , also published on 1?July, 바카라사이트 OIA said that it had told Wrexham Glyndwr University to compensate eight students who had complained about 바카라사이트 quality of a healthcare-related course.

The watchdog said that 바카라사이트 students had complained that a key part of 바카라사이트 course had not been taught as promised, meaning that 바카라사이트y were not given 바카라사이트 necessary skills to practise safely. Some teaching hours were cancelled for some modules, and 바카라사이트 group also complained about 바카라사이트 behaviour of a staff member, who 바카라사이트y said was ¡°unapproachable and aggressive¡±.

The OIA, which ruled that 바카라사이트 complaint was partly justified, said that Glyndwr should refund tuition fees of ?2,140 to each student, and pay an additional ?1,500 compensation to each of 바카라사이트m for 바카라사이트 inconvenience caused.
