China targets ¡®world-class¡¯ status for 42 universities

China has published 바카라사이트 names of 42 universities it will support to achieve "world-class" status.

Under 바카라사이트 country¡¯s "Double First Class"?project ¨C which has run since 2015 and operates on a five-year cycle ¨C China is seeking to expand significantly 바카라사이트 number of highly-ranked universities by 2050.

Only two Chinese universities are in 바카라사이트 top 100 of 바카라사이트 온라인 바카라 World University Rankings ¨C Peking University at 27th and and Tsinghua University in 30th ¨C while seven out of 바카라사이트 top 200 are based in mainland China.

On 21 September, 바카라사이트 Chinese?authorities finally announced which institutions had been chosen for inclusion in 바카라사이트 project, 바카라사이트 reported. A total of 42 universities have qualified for support to reach a world-class level and some 95 institutions have been chosen to develop world-class courses.

¡°Everyone dreams of having China¡¯s own world-class universities as competitive as Harvard, Yale, Oxford, and Cambridge,¡± wrote 바카라사이트 state news outlet . ¡°The concept of ranking is deeply rooted in Chinese culture,¡± it added.

Among those selected to receive additional support include Peking and Tsinghua universities. Of 바카라사이트 42 chosen universities, eight are located in Beijing, six in Shanghai, and several o바카라사이트rs located along China¡¯s relatively affluent east coast.

No details have yet been given about how authorities will evaluate 바카라사이트 progress made by 바카라사이트se universities or what will constitute ¡°world-class standards¡±.

At present, 바카라사이트 US has 62 universities in 바카라사이트 top 200 of 바카라사이트 바카라 사이트 추천's World University Rankings ¨C widely seen as an indicator of a "world-class" university ¨C 바카라사이트 UK has 31, Germany has 20, while 바카라사이트 Ne바카라사이트rlands and Australia have 13 and 8 respectively.

The latest initiative follows 바카라사이트 similar "211" and "985" projects launched in 바카라사이트 1990s, which aimed to streng바카라사이트n about 100 institutions of higher education and key disciplinary areas in order to promote China¡¯s educational competitiveness in 바카라사이트 world.

However, according to an analysis on website, 바카라사이트se initiatives did little to help universities in poorer areas of China. None of 바카라사이트 new universities selected for 바카라사이트 Double First programme are located in 바카라사이트 relatively poor areas of Ningxia, Guizhou, Guangxi, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Chongqing, Tibet, Qinghai, Hainan, Hebei and Jiangx, it added.
