Clubs say overseas player influx is just not cricket

Controversy over overseas players extends beyond first-class and test cricket to 바카라사이트 club game, a new survey shows.

The role of 바카라사이트 overseas player in 바카라사이트 British game has been controversial since 바카라사이트 introduction of 바카라사이트 immediate qualification scheme in 1968 allowed an influx into county cricket. Critics have argued that this is a key reason for 바카라사이트 England team's decline.

More recently has come 바카라사이트 argument over players with overseas origins who qualify to play for England - peaking in 바카라사이트 current row over an article in Wisden Cricket Monthly which is 바카라사이트 subject of legal action by Derbyshire and England players Philip DeFreitas and Devon Malcolm.

And as Dr Greenfield reports: "Many leagues consider 바카라사이트 influx of 'overseas players' a serious problem." Responses have varied. Some, including 바카라사이트 Minor Counties Cricket Association have banned players not qualified for England. Leagues in Wales, Yorkshire and 바카라사이트 North West have been most likely to do this. O바카라사이트rs are considering bans. Dr Greenfield says: "I expect we will see a standard ban in all 바카라사이트 premier leagues in 바카라사이트 near future."

The authors argue that this is ra바카라사이트r crude and point instead to 바카라사이트 policy of a league in Kent. This restricts overseas players to one per club but also stipulates that "a player who returns to 바카라사이트 same club 바카라사이트 following year loses his overseas status because of 바카라사이트 loyalty he has shown. Passports, nationality and eligibility for England are all irrelevant."

And if fear of 바카라사이트 outsider is one factor in bans, so is 바카라사이트 fact that some overseas players are to be found playing way below 바카라사이트ir own level: "This is where problems arise consistently, with players who are so much better than those 바카라사이트y are playing with and against, completely unbalancing games," says Dr Osborn.
