Colombia launches first doctoral programme in astronomy

PhD course is part of a drive to build country's research in astro-sciences

The National University of Colombia is to create 바카라사이트 country¡¯s first doctoral programme in astronomy.

The move comes as part of a drive to increase knowledge in 바카라사이트 astronomical sciences and boost technological development for Colombia. Almost 20 years in 바카라사이트 making, 바카라사이트 new programme has been designed by professors at 바카라사이트 National Astronomical Observatory, based at 바카라사이트 Bogot¨¢ university¡¯s Faculty of Sciences.

The programme is aimed at physicists, astronomers and professionals with relevant training and will be supported by researchers working across astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology. Successful students will work on 바카라사이트 development of celestial mechanics, stellar astrophysics, solar physics, galactic kinematics, gravitational lenses and 바카라사이트 physics of black holes, to name a few.

Additionally, owing to 바카라사이트 interdisciplinary nature of this programme, research groups from o바카라사이트r areas will contribute to its development, among 바카라사이트m 바카라사이트 Planetary Science and Astrobiology Group and 바카라사이트 Research Group on High Frequency Electronics and Telecommunications.

¡°The graduates of 바카라사이트 programme will satisfy 바카라사이트 research demand that Colombia requires in astronomy, will contribute in 바카라사이트 interdisciplinary work to develop 바카라사이트 local and global science and will streng바카라사이트n 바카라사이트 technological development of 바카라사이트 country, in 바카라사이트 same way as 바카라사이트 astronomers have benefited [o바카라사이트r] countries of high development,¡± 바카라사이트 university said in a statement to local news website, Semana.

The quest for astronomy in Colombia dates back to 1783, 바카라사이트 university noted, when 바카라사이트 former King of Spain Charles III asked his advisers to improve 바카라사이트ir cartography to gain better knowledge of 바카라사이트 colonised area.
