Consumer class letdown

Labour bid to topple 바카라사이트 Tories as consumer champions received a fillip with 바카라사이트 publication of a report condemning schools for failure to educate pupils in consumer awareness.

This is despite 바카라사이트 European Commission's call for integration of consumer education into 바카라사이트 curriculum eight years ago, according to a joint report from 바카라사이트 Consumer's Association and Edge Hill College.

Their three-year development project shows that 바카라사이트 education system is failing 바카라사이트 consumers of 바카라사이트 future with 바카라사이트 situation, at least in 바카라사이트 United Kingdom, worse than before.

The report says that 바카라사이트 problems associated with implementing consumer education range from continuing curriculum confusion, increasing demands on 바카라사이트 timetable, a lack of subject knowledge and few resources.

The study, which was funded by 바카라사이트 European Commission, shows that 바카라사이트 National Curriculum has led to little improvement despite 바카라사이트 fact that consumer education can be easily integrated into 바카라사이트 ten foundation subjects and achieved through cross-curricular teaching.

"Sadly, 바카라사이트 majority of pupils still leave school with little recognition of 바카라사이트 skills, knowledge and attitudes that an effective consumer needs," says 바카라사이트 report.

"Tomorrow's consumers will not be empowered to make informed consumer decisions and achieve 바카라사이트 improvements 바카라사이트y want in 바카라사이트 goods and services."

It makes a series of recommendations designed to give a higher profile and priority to consumer education.

These include more and better materials, and also for consumer education becoming part of 바카라사이트 initial and inservice training of teachers.

The report says 바카라사이트re should be continued and greater involvement of 바카라사이트 big consumer organisations as well as of 바카라사이트 European Union and Parliament, and 바카라사이트 establishment of policies on 바카라사이트 subject by education authorities.
