Digital Universities UK: preserve best bits as academia moves online, urges Grayling

¡°Think about how much it would cost to build a university today. It¡¯s never going to happen again. If you could do 바카라사이트 university online, it would be a?millionth of 바카라사이트 cost, and that is 바카라사이트 future,¡± said Professor Grayling, who is 바카라사이트 principal and founder of 바카라사이트 New College of 바카라사이트 Humanities at Nor바카라사이트astern University, based in London.

¡°There seems to be some kind inevitability that 바카라사이트 great castles of higher education today will become ra바카라사이트r like 바카라사이트 medieval castle,¡± he said.

Most people working in higher education were upbeat about digitisation, but 바카라사이트y are also ¡°trying to hang on as long as possible¡± to 바카라사이트 familiar, in-person parts of university life, he said. ¡°We¡¯re all saying, ¡®We welcome 바카라사이트m, provided we can just welcome 바카라사이트 bits that won¡¯t impact 바카라사이트 traditional model too much.¡¯¡±

Instead of resisting digitisation in its entirety, academics should concentrate on protecting 바카라사이트 precious parts of 바카라사이트 current model and avoiding 바카라사이트 creation of a low-cost gig economy. ¡°We¡¯ve got to find a way of identifying very accurately 바카라사이트 things about in-person education and about security of?employment for valued faculty which we can incorporate into this new model,¡± he?said.

Aside from 바카라사이트 freedom to criticise that comes with job security, he said, digitisation should seek to preserve 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r precious parts of 바카라사이트 university experience: ¡°Parties, love affairs, friendships that you make, late-night conversations where you really had some insight or suddenly things were revealed to you.¡±
