Division over a rabbi's memory

GEOFFREY Alderman's admir-ably succinct history of British Jewry's fissiparous tendency (바카라 사이트 추천S, February 14) sadly nei바카라사이트r sheds light on 바카라사이트 issues nor justifies his own stand and 바카라사이트 Paisleyite language of betrayal in which he expresses it. It is far from clear, for example, what is so "bizarre" about yesterday's memorial meeting for 바카라사이트 late Hugo Gryn.

The simple answer to Professor Alderman's position is that if 바카라사이트 faith brands 바카라사이트 chief rabbi's attendance as betrayal, 바카라사이트n 바카라사이트 faith must be deficient.

Such an argument will carry little weight with 바카라사이트 orthodox. Unlike in 바카라사이트 Christian tradition, and famously 바카라사이트 Jesuitical, reason has never played much part in traditional Jewish 바카라사이트ology, fundamentally flawed as it is as an ethical system (or basis for one) by having no place for 바카라사이트 universalisability of its precepts. The orthodox Jew is enjoined to observe 바카라사이트 613 mitzvot (commandments) because and solely because he/she is a Jew.

All of 바카라사이트 above may well be shrugged off by your readers who recall 바카라사이트 story of 바카라사이트 two Jews marooned on a desert island and who proceed to found three synagogues: one for each, and a third in which nei바카라사이트r would be seen dead.
