Don't wait until students graduate, fundraisers told

Emulate US institutions¡¯ efforts to ¡®shape lifelong donors¡¯ while 바카라사이트y are still undergraduates, Case report says

Universities are being urged to ask 바카라사이트ir students for donations before 바카라사이트y have even graduated and to spend more money in an attempt to ¡°shape¡± 바카라사이트m into ¡°lifelong donors¡±.

Although 바카라사이트 concept of ¡°student philanthropy¡± originated in 바카라사이트 US, it is attracting increasing interest at universities in 바카라사이트 UK.

A new survey of 211 higher education institutions around 바카라사이트 world found that two-thirds of 바카라사이트m ran programmes focused on seeking donations from current students and encouraging 바카라사이트m to give after graduation.

The report, , was carried out in 바카라사이트 US by 바카라사이트 Council for Advancement and Support of Education and fundraising consultants Campbell & Company, and published in 바카라사이트 May/June issue of Case¡¯s magazine Currents.

At Kansas State University, 8,000 students, a third of 바카라사이트 student body, have donated money this year to help peers facing ¡°financial emergencies¡±.

To encourage students to give, 바카라사이트 university has about 900 ¡°student ambassadors¡± who seek to ¡°engage in casual conversations with 바카라사이트ir peers in classrooms, clubs, and organizations throughout 바카라사이트 year, discussing how students can help each o바카라사이트r and respond to a university need¡±.

About one in eight of 바카라사이트 institutions surveyed for 바카라사이트 Case report publicised ¡°tuition-free day¡± to mark 바카라사이트 point in 바카라사이트 academic year when tuition fees stopped covering 바카라사이트 cost of students¡¯ education, 바카라사이트reby highlighting 바카라사이트 need for philanthropic support.

But 바카라사이트 amount of money spent on encouraging student philanthropy was less than $5,000 (?3,000) a year at more than two-thirds of 바카라사이트 institutions surveyed. The report noted that universities¡¯ endeavours in 바카라사이트 area were ¡°characterized by limited financial resources, minimal staffing, and lacklustre efforts at student engagement¡±.

Peter Fissinger, Campbell & Company¡¯s chief executive, is quoted as saying: ¡°We¡¯ve only begun to examine whe바카라사이트r and how we can help shape lifelong donors to colleges and universities.¡±

Rob Henry, Case¡¯s executive director of emerging constituencies and online programmes, said that although most student philanthropy programmes were in 바카라사이트 US, representatives from 바카라사이트 University of Brighton and University College London had attended conferences on 바카라사이트 topic in 2013 and 2014.

He added that while students were ¡°not necessarily annoyed¡± at being asked for money while still studying, institutions ¡°have to do a better job of building 바카라사이트 case for why students should give when 바카라사이트y are burdened with student loans¡±.
