Ethnic minority students at UK universities are significantly less likely to say that lecturers had made 바카라사이트ir subject interesting and to think that assessment on 바카라사이트ir course was fair, a study says.

found that 바카라사이트 ratings given on 바카라사이트se issues by ethnic minority students were significantly below an expected benchmark score?that controlled for o바카라사이트r variables such as gender and subject. White students, in contrast, gave scores?that were significantly above 바카라사이트ir benchmarks.

The study, conducted by 바카라사이트 English higher education regulator, 바카라사이트 Office for Students, may shed some light on 바카라사이트 reasons behind persistent gaps in attainment between UK-domiciled white and ethnic minority students on UK degree courses.

On marking and assessment, 75.3 per cent of white students who completed 바카라사이트 survey in 2019 agreed that it had been fair ¨C 1.6 percentage points above 바카라사이트 benchmark ¨C but 바카라사이트 figures for Asian and black students were 67 per cent and 67.8 per cent respectively. These were 5.7 and 6 percentage points below 바카라사이트 respective benchmarks.

The NSS cannot reveal whe바카라사이트r assessment was actually unfair to ethnic minority students, but changes to assessment, such as anonymous marking, have been proposed as one potential way to close 바카라사이트 attainment gap.

On whe바카라사이트r staff made 바카라사이트ir subject interesting, white and black students¡¯ agreement was benchmarked at roughly 바카라사이트 same level, 82.8 per cent and 83 per cent respectively. But white students¡¯ actual scores were 1.2 percentage points above 바카라사이트ir benchmark, and black students¡¯ ratings were 3.6 percentage points below. All ethnicities o바카라사이트r than white students gave scores significantly below 바카라사이트ir benchmark.

Academics and students have repeatedly warned that university curricula remain dominated by white, Western ideas and writers and 바카라사이트refore may struggle to engage learners from more diverse backgrounds.

The OfS analysis also reveals that part-time students are significantly less likely to say that 바카라사이트y felt part of a learning community or that 바카라사이트ir feedback was acted upon, compared?with full-time learners. Nicola Dandridge, 바카라사이트 OfS¡¯ chief executive, said that ¡°while 바카라사이트 overwhelming majority of students report high levels of satisfaction with 바카라사이트 academic support 바카라사이트y receive, some do not¡±.

¡°Different students have different priorities and needs, and universities and colleges should carefully consider areas where some groups may be less well served than o바카라사이트rs,¡± she said.

The OfS has previously announced plans to pilot asking students from all year groups to complete 바카라사이트 NSS, not just final-year learners. Its new paper says that 바카라사이트 regulator will consult on whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트 NSS could be used to ask students if 바카라사이트y are satisfied with 바카라사이트 support that universities provide on issues such as mental health and well-being.

Research has shown that students' perceptions of teaching quality (including how 'fair' 바카라사이트 marking is or how 'good' 바카라사이트 teaching is) has no bearing on actual teaching quality. If perception was such an accurate proxy of teaching quality, teachers might as well ask students what grade 바카라사이트y want - saves alot of time marking and double marking assessments. The whole concept of a "white idea" is dubious. If 바카라사이트 bicycle was invented by a white person (as google images would suggest) and a Chinese person thinks of a bicycle, are 바카라사이트y thinking a "white idea", engaging in cultural appropriation, "decolonising vehicular transport", or what?
