EU backs 'science diplomacy' in Middle East with synchrotron support

European Commissioner for research sees Jordan investment as contribution to peace and stability

EU funding has supported 바카라사이트 opening of 바카라사이트 SESAME synchrotron in Jordan, billed as 바카라사이트 first major international research infrastructure in 바카라사이트 Middle East.

Carlos Moedas, European commissioner for research, science and innovation, attended an inauguration event alongside King Abdullah II of Jordan and 300 policymakers, scientists and diplomats from across 바카라사이트 region.

Mr Moedas said: ¡°SESAME is 바카라사이트 best evidence that science diplomacy is a driver of scientific and technological excellence and a powerful tool for improving relations across countries, regions and cultures promoting peace and stability in 바카라사이트 region.

¡°As a universal language, science opens channels of communication and builds trust. I'm proud to see that 바카라사이트 EU is supporting this important flagship of science diplomacy."

Experiments at SESAME, which accelerates electrons to almost 바카라사이트 speed of light to facilitate 바카라사이트 study of matter, will support research in fields including medicine, biology, materials science, physics, chemistry, healthcare, 바카라사이트 environment, agriculture and archaeology, 바카라사이트 European Commission said.

The EU has so far invested over €15 million (?12.9 million) to its construction, mainly through 바카라사이트 EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation and 바카라사이트 European Neighbourhood Instrument, it added.
