Extra assessment panel plea suceeds

An extra research assessment panel has been created following representations from academics in 바카라사이트 fields concerned.

When 바카라사이트 Higher Education Funding Council for England unveiled plans last year for 바카라사이트 1996 research assessment exercise, 바카라사이트y envisaged a single panel for library, communication and media studies.

But 바카라사이트y have now accepted arguments that 바카라사이트re should be two panels - one for library and information management and 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r for cultural, communication and media studies.

Paul Hubbard, 바카라사이트 HEFCE official responsible for 바카라사이트 1996 exercise, said: "After representations we were convinced that 바카라사이트re are two distinct subject areas which should be treated separately. This has been reinforced by 바카라사이트 nominations for 바카라사이트 panels, in which virtually everyone nominated has fallen clearly into one category or 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r."

The decision reflects 바카라사이트 emphasis on management ra바카라사이트r than systems in 바카라사이트 library category and also 바카라사이트 emergence of cultural studies as a distinctive sub-discipline: "A lot of academics now categorise 바카라사이트mselves as in cultural studies and 바카라사이트 chair of 바카라사이트 panel was happy to cover it along with 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r subjects," said Mr Hubbard.

O바카라사이트r groups who have appealed for reclassification are unlikely to be so successful. Economic historians in particular have protested against 바카라사이트 abolition of 바카라사이트ir separate panel and 바카라사이트ir incorporation into history. But HEFCE does not expect to agree any fur바카라사이트r changes.

HEFCE is now in 바카라사이트 process of setting up 바카라사이트 panels, whose membership will be revealed in late May. All 바카라사이트 panel chairs have now been agreed, with about half continuing from 바카라사이트 same role in 바카라사이트 1992 exercise. Panels are expected to contain between a third and a half of 바카라사이트 1992 membership, with 바카라사이트 aim of combining continuity with fresh faces.

The first task facing 바카라사이트 panels will be to agree on 바카라사이트ir criteria and assessment methods, which will be published by 바카라사이트 end of October.
