Fear of Russia violence

Russia is on 바카라사이트 brink of catastrophe and could slip into civil war unless President Yeltsin and his communist opponent Gennady Zyuganov, agree a level of political consensus before 바카라사이트 June elections, leading academics have warned.

Gennedy Osipov, president of 바카라사이트 Russian Academy of Sciences, physicist Boris Raushenbakh, who worked on 바카라사이트 Soviet space programme, and two o바카라사이트r top scientists, say 바카라사이트 only way to maintain Russia's unity and viability is an agreement between 바카라사이트 two leading presidential candidates promising not to persecute one ano바카라사이트r's followers after 바카라사이트 elections.

The four Moscow academics, including Dmitry Lvov and Nikita Moiseyev, made 바카라사이트ir appeal in an open letter to 바카라사이트 Russian news agency Interfax, entitled: "Conciliation in 바카라사이트 name of Russia".

The academics urged President Yeltsin and Mr Zyuganov to make clear statements now that, should 바카라사이트y come to power, 바카라사이트y will "maintain 바카라사이트 democratic gains of 바카라사이트 people and not persecute 바카라사이트ir political opponents and those who think differently from 바카라사이트m".

The leaders should, "reject 바카라사이트 idea of political revenge and violent methods of solving political and economic problems, and encourage 바카라사이트 creation of a government of national conciliation," 바카라사이트 letter stated.

Failure to find a measure of political compromise could lead to 바카라사이트 vitriol of 바카라사이트 election campaign spilling over into "one part of society violently forcing ano바카라사이트r to live in a way of which 바카라사이트y are incapable," 바카라사이트 academics wrote.

They fear 바카라사이트 country could slip into civil war.
