Foreign outposts will benefit from Knight moves

The head of University College London's Australian campus has been assured by 바카라사이트 nation's immigration minister that it will benefit from relaxed student-visa rules, after concerns that it would be excluded.

David Travers, chief executive of 바카라사이트 Adelaide-based UCL School of Energy and Resources, wrote to 바카라사이트 minister, Chris Bowen, to express concern that changes announced after 바카라사이트 recent Knight review of Australian student visas would not apply to his institution.

In 바카라사이트 letter - also signed by Terry Buss, head of Carnegie Mellon University's campus in Adelaide - Mr Travers says that "key benefits" of 바카라사이트 reforms "appear not to apply to our universities".

This was because of 바카라사이트 conditions set by 바카라사이트 South Australia state government when both UCL's campus and Carnegie Mellon's Heinz College were set up, meaning that 바카라사이트 two institutions were not officially classed as "Australian universities".

As a result, 바카라사이트y risked being placed at a competitive disadvantage when 바카라사이트 Knight reforms - which include 바카라사이트 streamlining of overseas visas and better post-study work rights for foreign students - were implemented, Mr Travers and Dr Buss warn.

However, since sending 바카라사이트 letter, Mr Travers said he had been contacted by Mr Bowen's office and been assured that 바카라사이트 minister intends to ensure that 바카라사이트 two campuses are treated 바카라사이트 same as Australian universities.

Mr Travers added that 바카라사이트 UCL school, which launched last year, was just six weeks away from graduating its first MSc students and was producing people with 바카라사이트 exact skills needed in Australia's booming mining and energy sectors.

"To deny overseas students - who graduate in Australia with a UCL degree - 바카라사이트 new two-year post-graduation working visa seemed unfair and we're pleased 바카라사이트 minister has stepped in," he added.

British vice-chancellors have warned that Australia's relaxed visa rules will mean heightened competition for universities in 바카라사이트 UK, where 바카라사이트 government is tightening restrictions on non-European Union students.
