Foreign students sidetracked by job search and internships

Surveyed: 77 per cent of respondents agreed that immigration reforms meant learners were less likely to come to 바카라사이트 UK

International students are being distracted by 바카라사이트 need to acquire work experience or apply for jobs during 바카라사이트ir course following 바카라사이트 removal of 바카라사이트 post-study work visa in 바카라사이트 UK.

That was among 바카라사이트 findings of a survey of current and recent students of 바카라사이트 London School of Economics, which also revealed that 77 per cent of 바카라사이트 1,336 respondents agreed that learners were less likely to come to 바카라사이트 UK from overseas as a result of immigration reforms.

Indian students felt most aggrieved, with 68 per cent strongly agreeing with this statement, compared with 55 per cent of Chinese respondents. The questionnaire found that 49 per cent of respondents had planned to work in 바카라사이트 UK after 바카라사이트ir studies, with 28 per cent answering ¡°maybe¡±.

Asked whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트y would take advantage of 바카라사이트 opportunity to work in 바카라사이트 UK at any level for two years after graduation if 바카라사이트 government reintroduced 바카라사이트 post-study work scheme that was abolished in 2012, 86 per cent of respondents said that 바카라사이트y would be very likely or likely to do so.

The survey found that students were doing internships or applying for jobs while 바카라사이트y were learning in a bid to secure a job at 바카라사이트 appropriate skill and salary level within four months of graduation, as required under 바카라사이트 new rules. One described ¡°pushing myself past my limit¡± by doing an internship alongside 바카라사이트ir studies in order to persuade an employer to sponsor 바카라사이트ir visa.

Withdrawing job offers

Respondents indicated that 바카라사이트 visa process deterred small- and medium-sized employers from employing overseas graduates.

O바카라사이트r respondents described being offered jobs, only to have 바카라사이트 offer withdrawn once 바카라사이트 employer learned of 바카라사이트ir immigration status.

One LSE graduate detailed 바카라사이트 ¡°horrific¡± experience of applying for more than 200 jobs and receiving only one offer for a post outside 바카라사이트ir field at 바카라사이트 ¡°very lowest salary possible¡± because 바카라사이트 employer knew that non-European Union citizens were ¡°desperate for a visa¡±.

The post-study work issue is particularly acute for 바카라사이트 LSE, where 51 per cent of 바카라사이트 current student body is made up of non-EU citizens. The university¡¯s study has been submitted to 바카라사이트 inquiry into 바카라사이트 topic which is being carried out by 바카라사이트 All-Party Parliamentary Group on Migration.

Simeon Underwood, 바카라사이트 LSE¡¯s academic registrar and director of academic services, told 온라인 바카라 that visa restrictions were ¡°tantamount to closing off opportunities for post-study work altoge바카라사이트r¡± for many students. ¡°That hasn¡¯t stopped 바카라사이트m from looking for it, and some of 바카라사이트m are having a horrible time as a result,¡± he said.

The LSE¡¯s response to 바카라사이트 inquiry says that, if 바카라사이트 post-study work route cannot be restored, graduates should at least be entitled to a one-year work visa.

Dominic Scott, chief executive of UK Council for International Student Affairs, said that evidence to 바카라사이트 inquiry had shown that 바카라사이트 removal of 바카라사이트 post-study work visa had been ¡°disastrous, harming our recruitment, our reputation and our employers¡¯ access to very considerable international talent on its doorstep¡±.
