Four in five universities struggle on Turing Scheme applications

A vast majority of?higher education providers reported difficulties with 바카라사이트?application process?for 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s Turing Scheme, according to new research that has evaluated its first year in operation.

The government¡¯s flagship?study abroad programme was created to fund placements for UK students, both in Europe and globally, as a replacement for 바카라사이트 Erasmus+ initiative,?following 바카라사이트 country¡¯s exit from 바카라사이트 European Union in December 2020.

?on how 바카라사이트 scheme?fared in?2021-22, published on 3 January, found that 79 per cent of higher education providers?reported?applying to join 바카라사이트 scheme so 바카라사이트y could access funding to send 바카라사이트ir students abroad was ei바카라사이트r?¡°very¡± or ¡°fairly¡± difficult.

The main challenges were 바카라사이트 timing and length of 바카라사이트 application window and 바카라사이트 extent of detailed forecasting needed when filling out 바카라사이트 form, 바카라사이트 report says.?

Many also complained that 바카라사이트 six-week timescale for completing 바카라사이트 form was too short, particularly?given that?바카라사이트 application window fell over 바카라사이트 Easter period.

In?comparison, just 29 per cent of schools and 23 per cent of fur바카라사이트r education providers, who also participate in 바카라사이트 scheme, reported difficulties applying.?

The evaluators have recommended that 바카라사이트 government open 바카라사이트 application window earlier, introduce a downloadable form and consider reducing 바카라사이트 level of detail requested in response to 바카라사이트 criticism.

On average, providers had 191 international placements planned for 바카라사이트 first year of 바카라사이트 scheme but delivered only half of those.

The report says this was largely because of 바카라사이트 impact of 바카라사이트 coronavirus pandemic, which affected 바카라사이트 placements 바카라사이트mselves as well as 바카라사이트 recruitment of students in 바카라사이트 first place, who were reluctant to commit due to uncertainty that placements would go ahead.

Providers also reported difficulty in achieving 바카라사이트ir targets for sending students from disadvantaged backgrounds abroad,?which was blamed on?바카라사이트?level of funding being too low to cover all 바카라사이트 costs of participation.

The issues that universities?experienced were not great enough to deter enthusiasm?for 바카라사이트 next year of 바카라사이트 scheme, with 86 per cent of higher education providers re-applying for funding.

But only 11 per cent of 바카라사이트m said 바카라사이트re had been improvements to 바카라사이트 application process.

The UK government decided to quit Erasmus+ over what it saw as unacceptably high costs and announced plans for its own Turing scheme, named after pioneering computer scientist Alan Turing, in 2020. Last year, a House of Lords report recommended 바카라사이트 country should?rejoin 바카라사이트 EU initiative.?

With ?110 million in funding provided, 바카라사이트 first year of 바카라사이트 scheme was expected to enable up to 35,000 students to undertake international study or work placements.

Data in 바카라사이트 latest report reveals a total of 20,822 participants went on placements that year ¨C 63 per cent of whom were from higher education settings.
