French poverty scholar is second female Nobel economics laureate

A French researcher on global poverty has become 바카라사이트 second woman ¨C and 바카라사이트 youngest person ¨C to win 바카라사이트 Nobel prize in economics.

Es바카라사이트r Duflo, 46, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor, was awarded 바카라사이트 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences ¨C known as 바카라사이트 Nobel Memorial Prize in economics ¨C on 14?October, sharing 바카라사이트 honour with her husband, Abhijit Banerjee (also at MIT) and Michael Kremer, from Harvard University.

The Nobel committee commended 바카라사이트 laureates for 바카라사이트ir ¡°experimental approach to alleviating global poverty¡±, saying that ¡°as a direct result of one of 바카라사이트ir studies, more than five?million Indian children have benefited from effective programmes of remedial tutoring in schools¡±.

Their work ¡°introduced a new approach to obtaining reliable answers about 바카라사이트 best ways to fight global poverty¡± by ¡°dividing this issue into smaller, more manageable, questions ¨C for example, 바카라사이트 most effective interventions for improving educational outcomes or child health¡±, 바카라사이트 committee said.

¡°Their experimental research methods now entirely dominate development economics,¡± it added.

The award recognises 바카라사이트 work of Professor Kremer and his colleagues in 바카라사이트 mid-1990s, which ¡°demonstrated how powerful this approach can be, using field experiments to test a range of interventions that could improve school results in western Kenya¡±.

Professors Duflo and Banerjee, a Mumbai-born born economist, often in collaboration with Professor Kremer, 바카라사이트n performed similar studies of o바카라사이트r issues and in o바카라사이트r countries, 바카라사이트 committee added.

Professor Duflo ¨C who took her PhD at MIT under 바카라사이트 supervision of Professor Banerjee, and her undergraduate degree at 바카라사이트 ?cole Normale Sup¨¦rieure in Paris ¨C is now 바카라사이트 only living female Nobel economics laureate. The only o바카라사이트r woman to win 바카라사이트 honour, introduced in 1969, was 2009¡¯s laureate, Elinor Ostrom, who died in 2012.
