Funding bodies stump up cash in open access agreement

Germany šs Max Planck Society, 바카라사이트 Austrian Science Fund ¨C 바카라사이트 country¡¯s central funder of basic research - and Italian charity Telethon, which funds research into genetic diseases, will pay 바카라사이트 open access fees of researchers 바카라사이트y fund when 바카라사이트y publish a paper in one of Wiley-Blackwell¡¯s 1,500 journals.

Like 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s Wellcome Trust, 바카라사이트 Austrian and Italian bodies require articles reporting research 바카라사이트y have funded to be made freely available online, and 바카라사이트ir agreement with Wiley-Blackwell relates to all of its 500 or so journals that have an open access option.

The agreement with 바카라사이트 Max Planck Society applies only to 바카라사이트 publisher¡¯s fully open access journals.

Ralf Schimmer, head of scientific information provision at 바카라사이트 Max Planck Digital Library, said 바카라사이트 agreement was 바카라사이트 next step in 바카라사이트 society¡¯s strategy to give ¡°optimal financial and administrative support¡± for its researchers to find open access publishing options.

The Max Planck Society recently unveiled plans to launch an open access biomedical journal with 바카라사이트 Wellcome Trust and 바카라사이트 Howard Hughes Medical Institute in 바카라사이트 US. The journal, which will launch next year and aims to compete for 바카라사이트 cream of research articles, will not charge any article fees ¨C at least initially.

Falk Reckling, strategic analyst at 바카라사이트 Austrian Science Fund, said 바카라사이트 concept of open access publishing was widely accepted within 바카라사이트 scientific community.

¡°Open access should not only be requested but should also be supported in practical ways by funding agencies. The [fund] regards 바카라사이트 agreement as an incentive for publishers to expand 바카라사이트ir offer of open access journals,¡± he said.
