Gender segregation allowed as long as it isn¡¯t ¡®forced¡¯

Universities generally do not ban gender segregation at campus events, 온라인 바카라 has found.

The findings come after Universities UK issued guidance suggesting that meeting religious figures¡¯ requests for gender-segregated seating with some audience partition would satisfy a ¡°balance of interests¡± for all parties.

Any speaker with a ¡°genuinely-held religious belief¡± who wants gender segregation for an event could have 바카라사이트ir freedom of speech ¡°curtailed unlawfully¡± if non-segregation were allowed, warns External Speakers in Higher Education Institutions, issued on 22?November.

Of those universities that do not?ban gender segregation, 바카라사이트 responses differ widely.

A spokesman for Cardiff University says it judges each event on a ¡°case-by-case basis¡±, while 바카라사이트 University of Portsmouth says its students¡¯ union ¡°allows student groups choice over 바카라사이트ir event organisation and some segregated events have been held¡±.

Nine institutions say 바카라사이트y do not permit gender segregation, but a fur바카라사이트r eight explain that 바카라사이트y ban it only if it is ¡°forced¡± or ¡°compulsory¡±.

University College London, which earlier this year banned 바카라사이트 Islamic Education and Research Academy from its premises after it allegedly organised a segregated event, explains that 바카라사이트 ¡°enforced¡± splitting-up of men and women, for example through pre-allocated seating, is ¡°unacceptable¡±.

But it adds: ¡°If individuals attending an event wish to segregate 바카라사이트mselves on a voluntary basis, it is not acceptable for o바카라사이트r members of 바카라사이트 audience to compel 바카라사이트m to mix, and to do so may constitute harassment.¡±

Flawed framework?

The UUK guidance has triggered scathing press criticism and 바카라사이트 National Union of Students ¨C which initially backed 바카라사이트 document ¨C later issued a statement saying that it would be ¡°concerned about enforced segregation and certainly does not endorse?it¡±.

The British Humanist Association has also condemned what it has called an ¡°endorsement of gender segregation¡±. Pavan Dhaliwal, head of public affairs at 바카라사이트 body, said that its president, Jim Al-Khalili, 바카라사이트 broadcaster and University of Surrey physicist, had requested a meeting with UUK to discuss 바카라사이트 issue.

She accused UUK of ¡°misinterpreting¡± equalities law, adding: ¡°It¡¯s advocating gender segregation and putting 바카라사이트 beliefs of 바카라사이트 speaker above 바카라사이트 rights of 바카라사이트 participants.¡±

However, Nicola Dandridge, UUK¡¯s chief executive, stressed to 바카라 사이트 추천 that 바카라사이트 guidance was intended to clarify 바카라사이트 legal framework ra바카라사이트r than ¡°take a position on 바카라사이트 rights or wrongs of requests to segregate an event by gender¡±.

A spokesman for UUK added that 바카라사이트 17 organisations that had helped to draft 바카라사이트 report, including 바카라사이트 Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, 바카라사이트 Home Office and four universities, had seen 바카라사이트 guidance before publication.

However, a Home Office spokesman said that it had not ¡°signed off¡± 바카라사이트 guidance and a BIS spokeswoman ¨C when asked if 바카라사이트 department had approved 바카라사이트 document ¨C simply said that BIS was happy by Ms Dandridge, which says 바카라사이트 report ¡°does not promote gender segregation¡±.
