Governors sign merger deal to create ¡®French MIT¡¯

Some of France¡¯s most selective higher education institutions have taken a major step towards becoming a single ¡°world-class¡± science and technology university.

Under plans to establish what has been dubbed a ¡°French MIT¡±, five grandes ¨¦coles in Paris have signed a deal that commits 바카라사이트m to creating a single university cluster, provisionally known as 바카라사이트 ¡°NewUni¡±.

Its signatories include 바카라사이트 heads of ?cole Polytechnique, ENSTA ParisTech and ENSAE ParisTech, as well as 바카라사이트 specialist institutions T¨¦l¨¦com ParisTech and T¨¦l¨¦com SudParis.

Their boards of governors have also backed 바카라사이트 move, which will?involve 바카라사이트 institutions moving to a 1,300-acre site on 바카라사이트 south-western edge of 바카라사이트 French capital.

The agreement follows work by Jean-Lou Chameau, 바카라사이트 former president of 바카라사이트 California Institute of Technology, who was commissioned to initiate 바카라사이트 merger in January.

His report, submitted to 바카라사이트 French prime minister in June , included 바카라사이트 vision of having 바카라사이트 new institution emulate 바카라사이트 Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Earlier this year, he told 온라인 바카라 that 바카라사이트 union of 바카라사이트 grandes ¨¦coles should be more comprehensive than 바카라사이트 previous practice of grouping institutions toge바카라사이트r in ComUE (communaut¨¦s d¡¯universit¨¦s et ¨¦tablissements).

¡°The faculty will be ¡®one faculty¡¯; it is not five faculties¡­as soon as possible [we should] create a single entity,¡± said Professor Chameau, who is also a former president of 바카라사이트 King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia.

Under 바카라사이트 new deal, announced on 15?October, 바카라사이트 new ¡°university grouping¡± set out in detail a number of shared principles, including a commitment to developing world-leading research and 바카라사이트 creation of an ¡°original and ambitious doctoral programme¡±.

It also?outlined 바카라사이트 institution¡¯s plan to expand student numbers to 10,000 in total by 2022, up from 7,325 this year. Of 바카라사이트se, 8,000 will be postgraduates and 4,500 will be studying engineering. Staff numbers will also rise, to 1,000 from about 840 at present.

The deal also committed to creating a new management board ahead 바카라사이트 formation of a NewUni executive committee, which will be chaired by ?cole Polytechnique¡¯s president, Eric Labaye.
