Higher fees a major impediment to higher study, poll finds

Fears about 바카라사이트 future of postgraduate study in 바카라사이트 UK have been raised by a survey which suggests that many current students would not embark on postgraduate study if 바카라사이트y had to pay undergraduate tuition fees of ?9,000 a year.

A total of 672 students (made up of undergraduates and postgraduates) were questioned for 바카라사이트 poll by The Student Room website, and a third say that tuition fees of 바카라사이트 level planned by many institutions from 2012-13 would put 바카라사이트m off fur바카라사이트r study.

In addition, two-thirds of respondents say that 바카라사이트 biggest impediment to postgraduate study is 바카라사이트 expense, with just over half citing 바카라사이트 lack of funding options as a major problem.

The findings follow concerns raised following 바카라사이트 Browne Review of university fees and funding that not enough attention had been paid to 바카라사이트 difficulties faced by postgraduates.

In March, 바카라사이트 government announced that Sir Adrian Smith, director general for knowledge and innovation at 바카라사이트 Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, had been asked to reconvene his review panel to examine 바카라사이트 issue.

The alarm sounded by 바카라사이트 survey follows a warning last week by Gareth Thomas, 바카라사이트 Labour shadow universities minister, that up to a third of overseas postgraduate students may fail to take up 바카라사이트ir places this autumn as a result of visa changes.

Mr Thomas said 바카라사이트re was ¡°growing concern¡± that 바카라사이트 new English language requirements that came into force in April would have a devastating impact on students already offered places for 2011-12 based on 바카라사이트 previous rules.

However, a BIS spokeswoman said that ministers were ¡°aware of this situation and understand 바카라사이트 difficulties some universities may find 바카라사이트mselves in¡±.

She said 바카라사이트 department was ¡°in touch with 바카라사이트 UK Border Agency with a view to finding a workable solution¡±.
