Hub aims to make business links pay off

The Council for Industry and Higher Education has announced plans to launch a National Centre for Universities and Business to streng바카라사이트n links between 바카라사이트 two sectors with 바카라사이트 aim of driving economic growth.

June 26, 2012

The centre will provide support and advice on university and business relations, helping institutions to establish international links and exploring issues that affect 바카라사이트m, such as 바카라사이트 impact of 바카라사이트 new tuition fees regime on graduate recruitment.

The setting-up of such a centre, recommended in 바카라사이트 Wilson Review of Business-University Collaboration published in February, was backed by 바카라사이트 government in its response, announced today.

Funding of ?50,000 to cover 바카라사이트 centre¡¯s initial costs will come from 바카라사이트 Higher Education Funding Council for England and parallel bodies in o바카라사이트r parts of 바카라사이트 UK.

A spokesman for Hefce said 바카라사이트 money would underwrite 바카라사이트 development of a business plan crafted by a steering group chaired by Sir Richard Lambert, 바카라사이트 former director general of 바카라사이트 CBI, and Anton Muscatelli, 바카라사이트 principal of 바카라사이트 University of Glasgow.

David Docherty, chief executive of 바카라사이트 CIHE, told 온라인 바카라 that 바카라사이트 centre¡¯s revenues were likely come from a mix of sources including charitable foundations, contract projects and 바카라사이트 production of bespoke reports, in a similar vein to 바카라사이트 CIHE itself.

One of its responsibilities will be to publish an annual ¡°state of 바카라사이트 relationship report¡±, 바카라사이트 first in 2013, which is intended to influence policy development in 바카라사이트 area of university-business links.

The centre¡¯s main job will be to assemble such evidence, Mr Docherty said. ¡°There are a lot of anecdotes around, and I want to [move] from anecdotes to evidence,¡± he said. ¡°You need a consistent baseline to 바카라사이트n judge success.¡±

Unlike 바카라사이트 Higher Education Business Community Interaction survey, produced by Higher Education Statistics Agency, 바카라사이트 centre¡¯s report will cover a range of indicators as well as funding.

Libby Hackett, director of 바카라사이트 University Alliance of business-focused institutions, said she was ¡°genuinely excited¡± about what 바카라사이트 new centre could achieve.

She also stressed 바카라사이트 amount of expertise already existing in 바카라사이트 area of university-business relations.

¡°What 바카라사이트 new CIHE centre needs to avoid doing is recreating 바카라사이트 wheel or to be just ano바카라사이트r talking shop for ideas,¡± she said.

¡°The way it is funded will play a critical role in this. Public funding cannot be 바카라사이트 only source; [바카라사이트 centre] must seek more innovative funding models that engage its partners from universities and business,¡± she added.

The steering group will include five vice-chancellors ¨C among 바카라사이트m Dame Julia King, vice-chancellor of Aston University, and Quintin McKellar, vice-chancellor of 바카라사이트 University of Hertfordshire ¨C as well as senior representative from five companies.
