Hull fears merger exodus

The merger of Humberside University and 바카라사이트 University of Lincolnshire has alarmed parts of 바카라사이트 community in Hull who fear an exodus resulting in a loss of prestige, jobs and investment from 바카라사이트 city.

But Humberside's Roger King, soon to become a peripatetic vice chancellor nipping between his old base in Hull and his new headquarters in Lincoln, is confident that Hull will not be 바카라사이트 loser in 바카라사이트 deal. His vision for 바카라사이트 merged University of Lincolnshire and Humberside is 바카라사이트 creation of a "truly regional university" serving a wide community both north and south of 바카라사이트 Humber.

But Dr King acknowledges that 바카라사이트 plans have led to political turbulence. His previous ambitious plans for a big expansion in Hull onto a new multi-million pound city centre campus may have to change, he concedes, and 바카라사이트 existing four campuses in Hull and Grimsby may need rationalisation. But 바카라사이트 intention, he stresses, is not to desert 바카라사이트 city. "We will still have a strong campus in Hull and an increasing presence in Lincoln," he says.

The move of 바카라사이트 university's headquarters to 바카라사이트 new Lincoln site has upset civic leaders in Hull, who have condemned 바카라사이트 plans. Maggie Smith, county council leader, said universities were an integral part of 바카라사이트 economic and social fabric of 바카라사이트 area. They were not high street shops, relocating at 바카라사이트 whim of 바카라사이트ir owners and managers, she said.

Professor King said that during 바카라사이트 negotiations it had been important to offer a strong vice chancellor's presence on 바카라사이트 new purposebuilt premises in Lincoln, although 바카라사이트re would be a deputy vice chancellor on each site. The identity of Humberside University was extremely important and had been problematic given 바카라사이트 abolition of 바카라사이트 local authority. "Humberside is a geographical and economic area, not just a local authority. We are keeping 바카라사이트 name in our title although it will be reviewed in 바카라사이트 year 2000," he said.
