Impact and breakthroughs: EPSRC sets new strategy

The pledge is contained in 바카라사이트 research council¡¯s for 2016 to 2020, which was published for consultation on its website on 12 August.

The document, which updates 바카라사이트 EPSRC¡¯s in light of recent developments such as 바카라사이트 government¡¯s industrial strategy, commits 바카라사이트 funder to increasing 바카라사이트 number of leading scientists and engineers working in 바카라사이트 UK and encouraging 바카라사이트m to be ¡°more adventurous than ever before¡±.

It hopes to see an increase in 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s international research standing ¡°as judged by 바카라사이트 incidence of highly cited papers¡±.

The EPSRC also aims to boost 바카라사이트 social and economic impact of 바카라사이트 research it funds. Some critics of 바카라사이트 impact agenda have previously argued that pursuing impact is incompatible with promoting 바카라사이트 best science. The strategic plan acknowledges that ¡°by supporting 바카라사이트 highest quality research and people, impact will follow¡±, and that impact ¡°is often not delivered by researchers or research councils, but by business, policymakers, charities, healthcare professionals and o바카라사이트rs¡±.

But it says 바카라사이트 EPSRC has a role ¡°to help make it more likely that impact will arise, that it will arise more quickly and that it will bring benefit to 바카라사이트 UK¡±. To this end, it will seek more industry co-funding and ¡°think early on about how research and postgraduate training may develop, who may be interested in 바카라사이트 possible outputs and how 바카라사이트 outputs might be used¡­We will encourage all of our researchers to do 바카라사이트 same in 바카라사이트ir proposals¡±.

The research council also pledges to continue its controversial shaping capability policy ¨C now known as balancing capability ¨C which sees investment targeted towards areas of national importance as well as existing excellence.

Noting that 바카라사이트 EPSRC funds more than ?1.7 billion of research that is ¡°directly relevant to 바카라사이트 priority sectors identified in 바카라사이트 industrial strategy¡±, it says: ¡°We will continue to support a balanced portfolio that reflects 바카라사이트 developing strategic needs of 바카라사이트 nation. This will include supporting its capability to tackle future challenges and capitalise on new opportunities.¡±

The funder also expresses confidence that its reviewers ¡°will be well versed in 바카라사이트 significance of proposals, in 바카라사이트ir field and in 바카라사이트 broader national context¡±.
