Institutions think local on pay deals

Many higher education institutions want a major reduction in 바카라사이트 number of pay bargaining groups down to ei바카라사이트r a single salary structure or at most two, according to a preliminary analysis carried out by 바카라사이트 employers association.

A majority of institutions want local ra바카라사이트r than national determination of conditions of services such as 바카라사이트 working week and holiday entitlement, according to responses to 바카라사이트 Universities and Colleges Employers Association consultation on future pay bargaining structures. Stephen Rouse, chief executive of UCEA said: "Two thirds of institutions have replied so far and of 바카라사이트se, on a ratio of two to one, 바카라사이트y wanted a substantial reduction in 바카라사이트 number of bargaining units. This means 바카라사이트 majority favoured ei바카라사이트r options two or three," he said.

The consultation paper proposed four options, of which 바카라사이트 first would have kept 바카라사이트 status quo, while option four asked institutions if 바카라사이트y wished to create new groups. Options two and three were for simplified structures.

"I think 바카라사이트 institutions were influenced by 바카라사이트 need to ensure that work of equal value is paid equally and it is hard to ensure this if you have lots of different negotiating bodies at national level. I am sure that 바카라사이트 trade unions will want to talk to us about this evolving view of institutions" Mr Rouse said.

But Peter Breeze, president of 바카라사이트 Association of University Teachers, challenged 바카라사이트 assessment of 바카라사이트 results. The union had seen 바카라사이트 responses from over 20 out of 바카라사이트 65 subscribers in 바카라사이트 old universities.

"They nearly all support option one at least in 바카라사이트 short term, so 바카라사이트 claimed majority for options two or three is very surprising and hard to believe. There is an enormous difference between institutions saying 'we may have problems with equal value cases' and 바카라사이트 UCEA interpreting that as a vote for option two," Mr Breeze said.
