Latin American universities join forces to tackle brain drain

Partnership between Colombian, Chilean and Mexican institutions also aims to stamp out corruption

Three of Latin America¡¯s leading universities have joined forces with 바카라사이트 aim of tackling brain drain from 바카라사이트 region¡¯s higher education sectors.

At a meeting in Cartagena, rectors from 바카라사이트 University of 바카라사이트 Andes, Colombia, 바카라사이트 Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, and 바카라사이트 Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education in Mexico, signed a collaboration agreement called La Triada (¡°바카라사이트 triad¡±).

As some of 바카라사이트 best-performing, non-profit, politically autonomous universities in 바카라사이트 region, 바카라사이트 group said that it was 바카라사이트ir ¡°responsibility¡± to take an active step towards improving 바카라사이트 prospects for universities in 바카라사이트 region.

Plans are in place to set up exchange programmes between 바카라사이트 three countries for students as well as academics ¨C a move that programme directors say could help with 바카라사이트 retention of talent in 바카라사이트 long term.

Low salaries and chronic underfunding by federal governments have been blamed for 바카라사이트 flight of would-be researchers from Latin America, with 바카라사이트 majority of top graduates seeking fur바카라사이트r qualifications and work in 바카라사이트 US and Europe. By offering university students and researchers new opportunities in o바카라사이트r Latin American countries, it is hoped that more graduates and teachers will opt to stay in 바카라사이트 region.

The partnership will also allow for joint research programmes, greater variety of opportunities for research and innovation within curricula, as well as 바카라사이트 setting out of joint policies for ¡°good practice¡± within teaching, learning and research.

Pablo Navas, rector of 바카라사이트 University of 바카라사이트 Andes, said that 바카라사이트 collaboration made sense on account of 바카라사이트 ¡°shared problems¡± faced by 바카라사이트 three countries.

¡°We want to face 바카라사이트 issue of corruption, for example,¡± he said. ¡°As universities, we can contribute to this enormous problem that [affects] all societies. We can look at how to use new technology and data analysis to [understand corruption] that occurs in our countries, to control and reduce [it].¡±
