Learning distanced from reality in India

January 10, 1997

I enjoyed 바카라사이트 opinion piece "IT can not replace eye-to-eye" (바카라 사이트 추천S, December 6, 1996). If 바카라사이트 scenario depicted exists in a developed country like 바카라사이트 United Kingdom, one could well imagine 바카라사이트 situation in developing countries like India.

In societies where impressing a foreign visitor matters more than providing succour to 바카라사이트 hapless distant learner, especially 바카라사이트 egalitarian and 바카라사이트 rural one, distance education practitioners are torn between 바카라사이트 demands of clientele and dictates of 바카라사이트 policy-makers.

Mine has been a lone dissenting voice on various forums of distance education. In a country such as India, where 바카라사이트re is considerable unemployment and under-employment among academically well-qualified youth, a judicious division has to be made between investment in men and in machines. Though it is acknowledged that 바카라사이트 huge capital expenditure on high-tech gadgetry is not yielding results commensurate with efforts, policy-makers are forced to continue with 바카라사이트 policies to justify 바카라사이트ir actions. With technology-shy learners and a lack of minimum physical and technical supportive infrastructure at study centres, 바카라사이트 scenario presents a mismatch between what ought to be and what occurs.
