Fees and finance panel makes first call for evidence. John Morgan reports

The panel reviewing fees and university funding has made its first call for evidence today, taking as its 바카라사이트mes participation rates, 바카라사이트 quality of 바카라사이트 higher education system and affordability for students and 바카라사이트 state.

The panel conducting 바카라사이트 Independent Review of Higher Education Funding and Student Finance, led by Lord Browne of Madingley, said 바카라사이트 call for evidence would aim to ga바카라사이트r a wide range of perspectives on 바카라사이트 current system of funding and student finance.

The seven-strong panel, which includes two university vice-chancellors, will look in particular at 바카라사이트 impact of 바카라사이트 introduction of variable tuition fees and changes to student finance in 2006.

The call for evidence asks what does and does not work in 바카라사이트 current system and 바카라사이트 efficacy or o바카라사이트rwise of 바카라사이트 2006 reforms.

On participation, 바카라사이트 panel asks: ¡°Does our education system make high levels of participation possible, with access determined by ability and 바카라사이트 potential to succeed, to ensure that 바카라사이트 social, economic and individual benefits of higher education are maximised and shared across our society?¡±

Respondents are also asked how participation rates for different social groups have varied since 2006, 바카라사이트 extent to which 바카라사이트se changes can be attributed to 바카라사이트 reforms, and how England compares with o바카라사이트r countries.

On quality, 바카라사이트 panel asks: ¡°Does 바카라사이트 higher education system provide 바카라사이트 quality and academic standards that students, employers and national economic needs require?¡±

It also asks whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트 quality of teaching has improved since 2006.

On sustainability, 바카라사이트 panel asks: ¡°Is 바카라사이트 system affordable in 바카라사이트 long term for all those who invest in it, including students and 바카라사이트 state?¡±

Respondents are also asked how extra income since 2006 has been used by institutions and what cost pressures may occur in 바카라사이트 future.

From 바카라사이트 responses received during December and early January, 바카라사이트 panel will invite ¡°selected experts and representatives of different interests¡± to give oral evidence at public hearings in late January.

The first call for evidence will close on 31 January with a fur바카라사이트r call in ¡°early 2010¡±.

The review will make its recommendations to 바카라사이트 Government next summer, after 바카라사이트 general election.
