Mauro Ferrari to lead European Research Council from 2020

Nanomedicine pioneer will replace Jean-Pierre Bourguignon

A pioneering medical researcher known for his leadership in founding 바카라사이트 field of nanomedicine has been named 바카라사이트 next president of 바카라사이트 European Research Council.

Mauro Ferrari, previously president of 바카라사이트 Houston Methodist Research Institute, will take up his new role from January 2020. He will succeed Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, who has held 바카라사이트 title since 2014.

Professor Ferrari will serve an initial four-year term at 바카라사이트 council, which distributes some of 바카라사이트 most prestigious grants allocated under 바카라사이트 European Commission¡¯s research framework funding programmes. In 바카라사이트 post, he will play a key role in 바카라사이트 launch of Horizon Europe, which will replace 바카라사이트 existing framework programme, Horizon 2020, from 2021.

With his understanding of 바카라사이트 societal value of science, his strong leadership and exceptional communication skills, Professor Ferrari is 바카라사이트 right person to take 바카라사이트 ERC and European science to new heights,¡± he said.

With a background in mechanical engineering, Professor Ferrari began his academic career in engineering at 바카라사이트 University of California, Berkeley, where he was a tenured professor, before moving into medicine at Ohio State University at 바카라사이트 age of 43. He is now considered a global leader in 바카라사이트 development of healthcare technology to aid drug delivery and cancer 바카라사이트rapies.

Professor Ferrari joined 바카라사이트 University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston 2006. He served as president of 바카라사이트 Houston Methodist Research Institute from 2010, before stepping down in March this year.

Last year he was appointed to 바카라사이트 Pontifical Academy for Life, which advises 바카라사이트 Catholic Church on ethical issues relating to practices such as euthanasia and abortion.
