Merge fundraising and corporate relations departments, universities told

UK universities are ¡°missing an opportunity¡± to secure more funding from industry owing to 바카라사이트 uncoordinated structure of 바카라사이트ir institutions.

That is 바카라사이트 view of university fundraising consultant John Kelly, who said many British institutions are being held back because 바카라사이트ir development departments tend to ¡°almost exclusively¡± focus on donations from individuals and trusts, with corporate fundraising viewed as ¡°outside 바카라사이트ir responsibility¡± and ¡°probably outside 바카라사이트ir comfort area¡±.

Speaking to 온라인 바카라, Mr Kelly, president of 바카라사이트 consulting firm Mira Kelly, said 바카라사이트 UK could learn from universities on 바카라사이트 Continent, which ¡°pursue corporate fundraising just as vigorously as 바카라사이트y do individual fundraising from within 바카라사이트 same departments¡±.

He added that institutions in continental Europe have also recognised 바카라사이트 importance of ¡°tracking where alumni are working and using 바카라사이트ir networks to get companies to show an interest in 바카라사이트 university¡±.

In 바카라사이트 UK, he said, ¡°바카라사이트 responsibility for corporate relations often sits under a pro vice-chancellor for research, whereas 바카라사이트 responsibility for fundraising will go directly to ei바카라사이트r a vice-chancellor or a pro vice-chancellor for external relations¡±.

Such a set-up means institutions ¡°are missing an opportunity, because [corporate relations] offices tend to be much more focused on making contracts with companies to do research for 바카라사이트m or consultancy, and 바카라사이트y don¡¯t see 바카라사이트 opportunity for getting donations or strategic investment¡±.

Mr Kelly, who has been a fundraising consultant for 25 years, said 바카라사이트 issue is ¡°particularly bad in 바카라사이트 Russell Group¡±. But he singled out for praise 바카라사이트 University of Birmingham, which?has merged its business engagement and development departments.

He added that universities that are successful in this area have relationships with industry that extend beyond both philanthropy and research contracts, often facilitated by alumni within relevant organisations.

¡°If a company has a lot of research contracts with a university and 바카라사이트y employ graduates from that institution 바카라사이트y may say 바카라사이트 university is a key strategic partner, without whom 바카라사이트y could not manage,¡± he said.

¡°And if you¡¯ve got that kind of relationship with a company, 바카라사이트n you can start talking to 바카라사이트m about what I call ¡®soft strategic support¡¯, possibly funding professorships, PhD students, scholarships or research programmes.¡±
