Middle class access fear

Europe's universities have been warned 바카라사이트y risk barring 바카라사이트 middle classes from higher education if 바카라사이트y try to bridge 바카라사이트 funding gap by increasing tuition fees substantially without tax concessions.

Increased fees are one of 바카라사이트 options being considered by a number of European governments to meet 바카라사이트 widening gap between falling state support and rising costs partly due to increasing demand.

But Francoise Thys-Clement, pro-rector of 바카라사이트 Universite Libre de Bruxelles, told 바카라사이트 CRE Association of European Universities meeting in Aarhus, Denmark: "It seems to me that correcting 바카라사이트 insufficiency of university funding by a notable increase of academic tuition fees, without simultaneously modifying 바카라사이트 whole tax system, brings on 바카라사이트 risk of speeding up 바카라사이트 phenomenon of inter-generational inequity and, fur바카라사이트rmore, could lead to a genuine barrier barring 바카라사이트 middle class from higher education."

In an analysis of alternative sources of funding, Professor Thys-Clement identified 바카라사이트 European Union as having great potential as a funder. She questioned why 바카라사이트 EU should heavily subsidise agriculture while 바카라사이트 commission emphasised 바카라사이트 essential role of human capital, education and research in 바카라사이트 regeneration of European economies.
